I expected a bit more from the new playstation. Let me explain. PS4 does not support new wifi 802.11ac standard, as well as 5GHz band. It has 802.11n, which is better than ps3, but not acceptable for device with expected life of about 5 year. So using ps4 for video streaming is not going to be a smooth experience especially for 4k videos. It is worth pointing out that currently ps4 does not support any video streaming. It has an ability to stream movies from Netflix, Amazon and few other services but there is currently no way to stream videos from local PC running media server (ps3 can do it). There are very few games available for ps4, and most of the available games do not take any advantage of increased computational power, so they look and feel similar to ps3. Also ps4 does not allow you to play ps3 games. I understand that hardware is different but you can always run games in emulation. New interface feels bare and lacks customization. New software seems to be buggy and not polished, my ps4 got frozen twice in less than 4 hours of playing demos. On one occasion I had to pull the power plug because even power button would not work.
I really hope they will add more features and customization to the ps4 software and make it more stable. For now I am going back to ps3. I would not recommend getting it now, wait until new games are released. Ps4 certainly has some potential , but it is not realized yet. For now it is expensive blu-ray player, which does not even play 3D disks.

Hardware - 10/10 I won't bother you with all the technical specs and raw power that this machine has, you can go to other videogame sites for that. Out of the box you'll get everything you need to start playing (except the stand to set it vertically which is sold separately). You also get an HDMI cable which is pretty nice from Sony considering at this point all the ones I have are in use by some other console since my PS3 will still be used to finish all my pending games. The console gets a little loud when it first starts spinning up a disc, but it goes quiet again after a bit. Try to keep it in an open space with some room for circulating air. It doesn't get crazy hot but it won't hurt to do it. You get the power cable, the controller and a USB cable to charge it (BTW the controller can be charged while the PS4 is off). It's basically the same dimensions as the latest PS3 slim although this one looks way better next to your TV. No glossy finish, and the logos are barely noticeable. Hey, even the buttons to use it are very well hidden that it might take you some time to find them! It has 3 USB ports, that +1 from the PS3 makes a difference when you want to charge one controller, have a USB headset and an external drive.
Controller -9/10 I have already reviewed this item but in short, WAY better than the DS3 controller, the dualsticks are at a better distance for my thumbs considering I have big hands and the touchpad is a really nice addition too and I can't wait to see what other games do with it. Although the triggers were vastly improved too I should emphasize on the sticks. Their form and their material makes it perfect for long playing sessions and your fingers won't slip as easily as with the DS3 ones. There's a small speaker in it but it's not really a big deal. Remember how the Wiimote also has a speaker? Yeah, me neither. There is a light bar in the back that can be used if you have the camera so it can detect where players are sitting and your movement, similar to what the PS Move controllers did. I'll update my review if I ever get a camera too.
Software -8.5/10 I hope you're not one of the people having trouble connecting to the PSN and downloading the day 1 update they released (you can also go to sony's website to download the file and install it manually from a USB device) Powering up sometimes takes longer than I had hoped but once you're in, browsing is a breeze, especially in the psn store which makes it easier to find stuff than the previous version. Some users noticed that some of the media apps (for TV shows/movies) take a really long time to load. I'm not sure if that's Sony's fault or the third party that created the service. Hopefully they'll release an update for them soon. It's sad to see such a great piece of hardware and so powerful to still have to sit through very long loading times for thumbnails of TV shows.
One of the big selling points of this console is the ability to Share what you're playing, just a tap of the 'Share' button in the DS4 and you can almost instantly start streaming what you're seeing, get your friends to watch you play and comment on it, you can also add voiceover and I believe video (if you have the camera)
Games: Check out my reviews for Knack and Killzone to read my thoughts on those and as soon as I get NFS: Rivals I'll review that one too.
I'll keep updating this review as soon as I have more comments about it.
I'm also getting an X1 so I'm not a fanboy or anything for any company. I just play things and judge them for what they are. At this point there is nothing that would make me say to you "Don't get this". And $100 difference between this and the Xbox I have to admit it's a great advantage. We'll see how things turn out!

The PS4 is quite literaraly the greatest console ever made. The games out at the moment are not plentiful and the quality is so-so but the potential for this system is tremendous. Games look incredible and multi-generation games like Call of Duty: Ghosts show significant improvements. The most incredible update is clearly the controller. Perfect might be an understatement for the best controller ever released. The shape fits perfect in the hand and extremely cmfortable. The concave analog stick are extremely grippy and fingers will no longer slip off during heated matches. The edge on the trigger buttons is also easier to use. Overall an outstanding system with numerous improvements.
My experience with the PS4 is not without fault however. I am now waiting to receive my 2nd replacement from Amazon. My first unit a launch day edition arrived monday the week after the release. I was expecting delivery on release day but seeing the high demand and short supply that is fully understandable. After less than an hour of use my unit shut off on its and own and wouldn't turn back on. I was blighted with the BLD (blue light of death). I called Sony and unfortunately they had no replacement units. They wanted to wait for a shipping label to arrive in several days then wait even longer for them to repair the unit and then send it back. Finding this unsatisfactory I called Amazon and their amazing customer service sent me a replacement unit within 2 days. The turn around and easy with which it was used was outstanding. There were what could've serious issues that were handled great by customer service. The first was that I had failed to update my address after recently moving. This among other issues were handled seamlesly.
My issue now is that my 2nd unit is also defective. This one will not accept a disk. You can try to force it inside but it will si mply spit it back out and fight you during the process. Every 5-10 seconds it makes an eject noise as if the drive is trying to push out a non-existant disc. I followed some troubleshooting steps on the web and they only provided a temporary solution. After rebuilding the database and ever factory reseting the PS4 it still wouldnt work. I had to unplug the system overnight. After replugging it the following day it worked....for maybe 2 days. Fed up with this i contacted Amazon again. At first I was promised a new replacement then was later told my email that it was not possible to due it being out of stock. After numerous chat sessions I finally spoke to someone (manager? possibly) and they guaranteed me a replacment. I am now currently waiting on this one to be recharged after they refunded me back my money.
Initial customer service was great but i didnt appreciate them refunding my card back and going back on their promise to send me a replacement. It doesnt seem fair that it took speaking with several agents and promises that were later renegged to finally get someone to guarantee me a replacement unit. The last agent was great and hopefully this time the replacement I was promised wont later be canceled by email a few days later.
The review will updated if and when i do receive my 2nd replacement.
