Now let’s talk about the love story between Cyrus and River. I adored everything about them. Their connection was so strong from the moment Cyrus walked into New Horizons to talk to River. I just wanted to give Cyrus a hug. He was so strong and confident in his role as a psychiatrist and so weak and insecure in his role as a man and a worthy partner in a relationship. River was absolutely perfect for him. He was wonderful at showing Cyrus he deserved to be loved and cared about. I really enjoyed their conversations, their banter and teasing, and their steamy times were smoking hot! Cyrus has a fetish I have not come across often in books and I thought I would not like it, but it was addressed so perfectly here that I found it endearing, sexy and sweet all at the same time! In between trying to solve a murder mystery they found plenty of time to connect in the bedroom and it was SAF. Their HEA was absolutely perfect too!
Nicky James is just a power house of a writer. Every one of her books just captivates me and I get engrossed in the worlds and stories she creates. This was no different. I loved everything about this book. It was long and descriptive and amazing. Highest recommendation from me!
They could have all kicked off for all I cared about them - except maybe Cyrus' parents but they were just a bit of a plot device, really - and I would have been okay with that. Actually I would have liked the book more.
It must be different in Canada to a lot of other countries, a psychiatrist for 20 years, and he's 45? Hmm...
I'm probably done with this author as I find most of her characters awful, and I say this as someone who reads dark books, but there's a difference when I'm supposed to like the MCs, like here. And the undertone is mostly misogynist in her books. The one exception to that, of the books I've read of James where the women weren't plot driven 'b!tvhes and wh@res', is the very good The Devil Inside, which I really, really liked.
I gave this book 2 stars because I finished it.
2POV, 3rd person, past tense. 314 pages. This kindle edition published September 6, 2021.
Wow, what can you say?! The author managed to deliver a great story once again, not that it surprises any. She's good at it. The author has a great imagination as well as talent for characters and plots. it's not boring.
I really like this one a lot. It was good, it surprised me. I didn't guess it beforehand. YAY! That's what I want and that's what I did get. At the edge of my seat read. What a crazy thing! But weirdly logical. These were well-written characters which aren't run of the mill and it all fit. I could go on and on, but plenty of people have already put in words and I agree with the other fivestars. I only wish this became a series where these two would solve other cases. I'd love that
Thanks for a great entertaining read once again!
Recommended if you like suspense and MM.
