About the Author
Award-winning author Jenny Pavlovic says: "My post-Katrina animal rescue experience and my journey with 8 State Hurricane Kate taught me a lot about keeping your dog safe and learning to live in better harmony with your dog. This is the book that I wanted to organize all of my dog's information, for daily use, travel, and emergencies. Grab it and go!" Jenny Pavlovic is the award-winning author of 8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog and the Not Without My Dog Resource & Record Book. She is also a contributing author of Dogs & the Women Who Love Them: Extraordinary True Stories of Loyalty, Healing and Inspiration and a regular contributor to Valley Women & Beyond magazine. Jenny is a writer, speaker, blogger, animal rescuer, and biomedical engineer. She has helped rescue many dogs, and a few cats and horses, since Hurricane Katrina. Her remarkable journey with rescued Katrina dog Kate, a tale of love, courage, and compassion, has been an inspiration to many. The 8 State Kate Fund, named in Kate's honor, provides financial relief for animals in desperate situations. Learn more at www.8StateKate.net. Jenny lives in the Midwest with Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) Bandit, rescued ACD-Collie mix Chase, and rescued ACD mix Cayenne. One of her greatest rewards has been seeing rescued dogs recover from pasts of abuse, neglect, or trauma and begin to enjoy life. Jenny has learned a lot from watching her herding dogs do what they were bred to do. Through working and living with them, she has become a better person and a more confident leader. After years of working with her dogs in obedience, rally, agility, herding, carting, tracking, acting tricks, and therapy dog work, with experiences in TTouch, animal communication and more, Jenny is beginning to feel pretty well trained. Her day is not complete until she gets out for a walk and a ball game with the dogs. Nice for your new owner who wants to learn
On a closing note I bought it so I use it. I wish that there were more pages for year one two etc...
On the other hand if something happens to me and someone needs to take care of my dog this book will be their bible for that.
I have had dogs all of my live of over 50 years and was really looking for something simple. This is a nice book for a new owner but for me there are many unnecessary pages of mumbo jumbo that I do not need.
See also Jenny's wonderful book about the Australian cattle dog she rescued after Katrina, entitled "8 State Hurricane Kate."
I was trying to find a system for organizing all of my dog's information and this is a really nice book. There is so much more to this book than I expected. There are clear pockets so I can place pictures of Butch in the book (which will be critical if he were to ever become lost). All of his immunization and heath information is now in one convenient location. There is tons of information in this book and I am sure than new and veteran dog owners can learn plenty. I also liked the sealed pocket feature in the back. The only thing I would have liked to see were some pockets to include even more papers. The sealed one in the back is fairly small and there is not a lot that can fit. I like to keep all of my vet paperwork and need a bit more room.
Jenny Pavlovic, with her unique animal rescue and post-disaster experience has methodially put together a guide that puts all necessary information in one place, also with information that can help a dog owner prepare for all kinds of situations we hope we won't have to face, in a way that best safeguards possibilities for surviving those situations successfully. There are a whole lot of things in this book I hadn't thought of, thank heavens Jenny did. Be prepared. Get the book.
