Notes on the Bedouins and Wahabys, by John Lewis Burckhardt. Published posthumously in two volumes in 1831, it was the first book to accurately describe the various strains, conformation, and virtues of the Arabian horse in detail. As its title implies, there is also a great deal about the people of the desert, their customs, culture, and the fanatical Wahaby religious sect. Reviewed by Andrew K. Steen, Author and Historian of the Arabian Horse
