About the Author

Grant Snider is an orthodontist by day, finding hidden hours to write, draw, and create cartoons and picture books, including What Color Is Night?, What Sound Is Morning?, and One Boy Watching. He grew up riding his bike around town with his twin brother, exploring the creeks and parks of Derby, Kansas. Today he loves finding hidden trails and green spaces in Wichita, Kansas, where he lives with his family.

His work has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, The Kansas City Star, The Best American Comics 2013, and across the internet as the popular strip "Incidental Comics." Grant works as an orthodontist in his day job. You can often find him carrying a sketchbook, lost in his own thoughts.

Nothing Ever Happens on a Gray Day is an ode to solitary adventures. As the girl makes her way through her town, it seems as if nothing much is happening. But when she sits in the stillness, she discovers a winding path, leaves, water, trees, a secret hideout and much more. She discovers joy in the quiet and surprise encounters at each turn.

Grant Snider’s lyrical text is lovely to read aloud, and his colored pencil and marker illustrations are full of movement and emotion. This is the sort of book that will get young imaginations moving. It’s cozy and thoughtful and perfect for contemplation.
