Amazon Customer - One of my favorite authors. Over the past 2 years JC Ryan has become my one of my favorite authors. Nothing New Under The Sun is the first book in JC Ryan's new Carter Devereux series. A fascinating read about an alternative history to the origins of the human species. It is obvious that a lot of research went into this book and certainly is a captivating page turner.
K. Jones Amazon Reviewer - Great story! This is going to be another great series! I was very excited to read the first book in JC Ryan's new series! Since this is an archeological mystery, I was concerned that I would see the same type of characters as those that appear in the Rossler Foundation Mysteries. I was happy to discover that these are entirely new and different characters, and that this story doesn't have 'counter-parts' to the Rossler Foundation series.
'Nothing New Under The Sun' is the first book in the new series, and lays the foundation for the series. As such, the first few chapters have a lot of information in them that tested my patience a little, but I figured there was a reason he put it in there, and kept reading, and I was right. Once the foundation was laid, the book picked up speed and I became intrigued. The more I read, the more captivated I became with the story and it was hard to put book the book down.
The main characters are likeable and engaging, the plot mystifying, and the subject matter thought provoking. The facts of the book are well researched, and the fiction of the book is imaginative. I believe this is going to be another great series by JC Ryan!
Without giving away anything, I will say that the first book is continued in the second book, 'The Wolves of Freydis'. I am glad they were released together, because at the end of the "Nothing New Under The Sun"
OldArcher Amazon Reviewer - Get out your well-worn fedora, jacket with many pockets, brushes and dentist tools, and prepare for adventure... WOW!!! J.C. Ryan has eclipsed all of my other favorites-period... As a kid, I read books on archeology expeditions around the world, back in the days before WW II. It truly was a different world then, with adventure and intrigue abounding. Mr. Ryan has captured that feeling, taking from the headlines of today, blending real world events and giving his writing a legitimacy that few writers of fiction, any fiction, can equal... It's as if the late Richard Halliburton had met the heroes of Clive Cussler, and Carter Devereux steps off of the page... Indiana Jones is fun and flashy, but Devereux is more "real." Character development, pace, authenticity, dialog, and written for all audiences...
Mr. Ryan doesn't use gratuitous sex, profanity, or violence in his writing. His talents and quality of writing preclude such crutches. Like the late Louis L'Amour, what isn't necessary to telling a story, isn't included. Mr. Ryan's encyclopedic knowledge encompasses many areas of interest.I affirm, that nobody could possibly be bored, for there is more than enough,to satiate any reader of what Heinlein coined, "speculative fiction."I hope and pray that Mr. Ryan will continue to write as much, as often, and as quickly as possible. His work is amongst my greatest joys...
Think of it as special as a snifter of Grand Marnier, a cup of the finest coffee or tea, the ambience of a study with a merry fire in the fireplace, and you have the new Carter Devereux Mysteries... Enjoy, and like me, await his new works, with bated breath...
Do I endorse Mr. Ryan's works, especially the Carter Devereux Mysteries, Absolutely! Five out of Five Stars!!!
