This book is written with such honesty, openness, sincerity, and most of all, heart. The straight-forward and engaging writing draws you right in---I quickly became engrossed in Julie's story. It seemed as if I was traveling on the journey with her, and along the way, was learning from her insights, courage and determination.

For anyone who faces or has faced challenges in life, there is something to be gained from reading this book. You cannot help but feel the pain of Julie's many trials, but you will be uplifted by the sincere account of her joy. I may have shed some tears, but in the end, I felt at peace. I closed the book feeling hopeful and inspired.

Nothing Short of Joy
As Wayne Dyer has said about this book: "I love this book! I love this woman! Read it and reap!" Julie Genovese exposes the daily struggles faced by anyone born into this world and labeled "defective." She leaves nothing out. I came to feel the pains, disappointments and, at times, hopelessness of the relentless demands her body, family, friends, and total strangers placed upon her. And I was able to share her ultimate triumph and liberating self-discovery. Nothing Short of Joy is a wise book, sure to touch anyone choosing to become spiritually awakened.

If ever I feel I am having a bad day, I will turn to Julie Genovese for inspiration and hope. Julie was born with a rare form of dwarfism and degenerative arthritis. In her memoir, Nothing Short of Joy, she takes us on her journey from childhood--with many visits to the Center for Birth Defects where she is displayed on the exam table and studied by specialists—through her young adult life where she faces multiple surgeries and setbacks. The humiliation and heartache are palpable but her will to live as normal a life as possible and her loving family help her transform into the empowered, joyful woman she is today.

Her writing is honest and engaging and conveys the spirit of a strong woman who allows herself to be vulnerable but doesn’t let anything stop her from being the best that she can be. It is through these trials that she is able to connect with others who experience humiliation, fear, and limitations. She turns every challenge she has faced into a stepping stone for further growth and success and in doing so serves as a great source of inspiration for all who come in contact with her.

As a reader, I fell in love with her and her remarkable story of triumph over incredible odds. She proves that attitude and perspective are everything and where there’s a will, there’s a way to live the life you want and deserve. Her joyful presence in our world is a beacon of hope for all of us.

Read this book if you need to find inspiration in your own life. You will feel hopeful and joyful.

I purchased this book based on a recommendation I saw on Facebook. The author is a friend of a friend. Julie's journey was very difficult at times, and, as a parent, I found some of her childhood experiences to be abusive, so it was tough to read those parts, and I nearly put the book away. But I picked it up again figuring it MUST get better. And, I'm happy to say, it did. She found it within herself to draw upon the beauty the world has to offer, and all the potential of each person we meet to be someone we can connect with. By surrounding herself with positivity, she's able to work through all the issues that come with the challenges she was born with, and those that were put upon her by people with a decided lack of sensitivity.

I would also like to add her artwork is absolutely beautiful as well, and I think it's great that she displays it on Facebook for everyone to see.

What a joyous book! I could not put it down. You are pulled right in to her struggles, her journey, her humor, and her triumph and you enjoy the whole ride. You find yourself cheering for her the whole way. Genovese's prose are like beautiful strokes on a canvas. Not only is the story compelling but her words are so beautiful - you want to read it again and again, like visiting your favorite work of art.

Everyone should read this book, for what it taught her and for what it can teach us all.

Nothing Short Of Joy is a revelation. It shows just how resilient and triumphant the human spirit can be. It speaks to all of us and teaches us that we too, can learn to dispel the myths that we hold as truths, and claim a life of beauty from one of fear. Ms. Genovese is an inspiration to us all.

I am not the type who "loves a good memoir" because most authors just love to paint themselves in the best light possible. I was SO glad when I was recommended to this book because not only was it a quick read (took me a week to go cover to cover) but I actually enjoyed it! Julie's experiences with doctors as a kid and with relationships in college or with her parents throughout her whole life are relatable. I found the book was a great inspiration to realize that as humans we all share similar experiences and what Julie did with hers was just incredible. It was fantastic to hear that not only did she not let her physical stature keep her from climbing to new heights, but she found ways to make herself an escalator straight to the top!

A very inspirational read. The way she comes to peace with herself and the people in her life was very touching and seriously relatable for anyone. You don't have to be a little person to want to read this book, it trancends all boundaries and offers lessons we should all consider.
