First let's discuss God and Day. The tension between them regarding the wedding was hard to read considering how in love they are. Once everything was out in the open things did get better; however, watching Day go through all of that broke my heart. The feelings he had, believing that God didn't want to marry him tugged at my heart because deep down I knew that couldn't true. I felt tears in my eyes on more than one occasion but I'm glad they finally got there. Their wedding was exactly what I thought it would be and I was fist pumping when it finally happened. I have grown to love these two men, I know it sounds silly but they are like family and I want to know what's going on in their lives!
The coming together of Steele and Tech was a scorching slow burn that I absolutely loved. These two were absolutely perfect for each other - Their dance was a joy to read. The initial meeting was a little tense but I loved how Steele owned what happened. They burned the pages when they finally got naked in the sheets and that little bit of aggression from Tech was delicious. Steele made a great addition to the Enforcers and I can't wait to see what other trouble they can get into.
Catching up with all of the other characters: Judge and Michael, Furi and Syn, Johnson and Ro, Ruxs and Green and of course, Curtis and Gen. Wow, these characters are one hell of a family and they all mesh so well together. I just love how these wonderful men all help each other - no questions asked. And to have Pres, Ric and Blair in this story as well? Let's just say it was like a drive by having them show up unexpectedly but I think they really needed to be there to close that loop, especially for Day. I can't thank you enough for the few chapters on Curtis and Gen! It was a glorious surprise and was the cherry on the book sundae.
A.E. Via has done it again with a fantastic book for this series. I have every one of her books and they are often in my re-read pile because they are just that good. Now......please don't make us wait too long for Free's story. I just know that story is going to break my heart but I totally want an HEA for Free and I sure hope it includes Hart. Maybe my wish will come true. Thanks again A.E. Via for giving me exactly what I wanted.
My one disappointment was the addition of Prescott and company. It felt forced and unnecessary. The situation was easily resolved and silly. Are we to believe that Day had no idea what's going on with his best friend?
Overall, I highly recommend this book and series. I would like a book just about these guys. No need to add another pairing. Like a book about Syn and Furi getting married!!!! 💖💖💖
This one starts with starts with Day proposing to God with the whole team looking on. A God who accepts. A God who has no idea how they will pay for the big wedding Vikki has planned. Its a thought that will lead to discourse between he and Day because God just can't make himself explain it to Day. A Day who will become increasingly upset with God because God won't set a date for the wedding and won't talk about that wedding. A little problem that they finally resolve.
A couple of months later, Day, Ro and Syn are undercover in a run down house. What they are watching is a place an informant has told them the Artist will be heading for. Ruxs and Green, the enforcers, are on standby in case of trouble.
The Artist has beaten the team at every turn. He's a drug dealer among other things. A very smart drug dealer. The team has been after him for months with him always one step ahead. The informant has told them the Artist and his men will be at The American Trans warehouse today which is why Day, Ro and Syn are undercover in the ramshackle house which is ninety feet away from the warehouse.
Everything is going well till the informant is dragged out of one of the six black Escalades the Artist and his crew arrive at the warehouse in. Day knows the jig is up as he and he men come under attack from the twenty men the Artist has with him. The informant has his brains blown out right there. The old house they are in has no hope of withstanding the fusillade coming at it. Day, Ro and Syn hit the ground and return fire. Three against twenty or so.
Tech, Detective Shawn Murphy the communications and computer guru that works for the team sends Rux and Green even before Day calls out for them. Those seconds of extra time save Day, a wounded Ro and Syn. Green and Rux use a garbage truck to destroy the Escalaes and Ruxs and Green open fire on every man they can see using the garbage trucks roof and door. God and the rest of the team arrive and mop up.
The entire action was filmed and its film that Lt. Col. Edwin Lek Steele, retired, will see. Steele was a MARSOC marine for twenty years the last eleven spent in Special Forces where he ran fourteen black ops missions. He retired from the Corp. with a ton of medals including the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Steele went into law enforcement in Oakland, California. He was helpless when his partner was killed when he intervened in a convenience store robbery. He was off duty at the time. Steele felt that the officers called to the scene were slow on purpose. It couldn't be proved though but it left Steele with bitter thoughts toward the Oakland PD.
Steele's Uncle Ramos Steele a Councilman in Atlanta sent for Steele. He wants him on God's team. Ramos was also a Marine as had been his father and grandfather. Their roots were in Estonia. Ramos is Steele's fathers twin brother. Steele decides he will go for the interview even though his thoughts are bitter indeed.
God is pissed. He picks those on his team and the Chief has told him Steele will be on the team. There is no chose. Steele will be on the team.
The whole team is there when Steele walks in. He smells like booze and has a toothpick nestled in the corner of his mouth. He isn't the least bit intimidated by the eight sets of eyes looking at him. God is not impressed and Steele couldn't care less.
The meeting goes to hell when Tech gives God and the team the classified info on Steele. A Steele who noticed Tech the moment he saw him. Steele is gay and hasn't been in any closet ever. He likes what he sees when looking at Tech until Tech starts giving God and the team the classified stats on his black ops. Steele grabs Tech in an arm bar and God tells everyone to stay back. God was also a Marine and he knows a trigger when he hears one.
So begins one damned fine read.
This one has God, Day, Steele, Tech a Det. Murphy who wants out from behind the computers and in the field, a Tech who is as gay as every other member of God's team, Syn, Ruxs, Green, Ro,the team sniper Michaels, Steele's first meeting with the team where he almost breaks Tech's arms, a Tech who hacked into the classified info on Steele and what he did in special ops, a Tech who forgave Steele, a Steele who forgave himself. a Tech and Steele who will become lovers, a Steele who's part of the team, a Steele who's partnered with Ruxs and Green, a Steele, Ruxs and Green who foil a robbery, Hart the SWAT Captain who's a good friend to God and his team, a Hart who goes out of his way to help them anytime they need him, a date night for Steele and Tech turns into a chase, a chase where Tech shows his bosses what he's made of, a God and Day willing to put Tech in the field, Tech's replacement Free, a Free who is as good a hacker as Tech, a Free that Hart takes a shine to, a Hart everyone thought was straight, a Hart who's SWAT team is helping to move witnesses for a big trial, witnesses that are a target, Officer Vasquez who has been trying to get on God's team, a Vasquez who tries to muscle Free, a Vasquez who none of them like and is a guy God will never have on his team, and old friend of Day's Prescott Vaughn and his two boyfriends Dr. Edward Rickson and Blair Mckenzie, a Vaughn with a problem, a problem that could lead to his death, Day and team will figure it out, and God, Day and the team doing their best to take down the bad, save who they can and continue to what they do best in the city of Atlanta.
Five Stars. Super read.
