And then she meets Julian Vitalli, “King of the Cheesy-Pick-Up-Lines” and no matter how bad they are, you can’t help but like him.
I can’t help but feel the author has some first-hand insight on subject of “Bi-Polar Disorder” she nailed his personality perfectly. From the flip-of-the-switch mood swings, to the mania and depression, you see Julian deteriorate right before your eyes and want so badly for Liza to be the one thing that holds him together, even while he’s stuffing his foot into his mouth on a regular basis.
These characters are delightful, their problems are real and the author did a fabulous job creating a compelling story, and a strong interplay in a dynamic family and at the same time putting the fun in dysfunction.
As for the supporting characters, the intricacies and believe-ability of the supporting characters, I want to more about
this motley crew of delightful rogues or trendsetters.
The Vitalli's can invite me to Sunday Brunch any time...I'll be glad to join them!
The two main characters: Lisa and Julian.
Well, Julian is an ass!! I understand he is bipolar and an alcoholic, but he gets away with anything because of it which is wrong. And he keeps making excuses for himself because of those. I'm sorry, but I just did not like him! Even though he was trying to do the right thing in the end, I couldn't deal with the way he treated Lisa the rest of the time.
Lisa-even though she got mad and kicked him out, I still felt like she forgave him too easily every time. I'm glad though that she stuck with him and hopefully they will have a good life together!
In general, I liked the Vitalli Family: they take care of each other no matter what, which is how a family should be. I would recommend this book because it not only has love stories, but also real life situations, true emotions, and real relationships between family members. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
Julian is a botanist who is bipolar and an alcoholic so you can imagine just how mucked up his mind can be.
Liza is a case manager for kids in foster care, and she meets Julian when his mother crashes into her car on the way to an appointment.
Julian and Liza's relationship is not an easy one, but who said life was easy.
Maybe my problem is it is not the Happily Ever After I usually like when reading romance. When I read I like to disappear into a fantasy world. This relationship was too realistic for my tastes since I had a very close friend in a very similar relationship and it ended badly.
The story line was good and the writing style enjoyable. Just not my cup of tea.
The back & forth did get to be a bit much for me at various points - just wanted to smack Julian, and at times, Liza! It's not that anything they did was lacking in pulling out my empathy feelers - I got them, I really did! - I just didn't always like the whiplash effect happening w/in sentences of each other! And Liza has some job issues that had me wanting to smack some other ppl! These annoyed me, but the way they were written was great because they DEFINITELY evoked feelings! LOL
Julian's bipolar disorder & Liza's unique perspective in being able to understand him - LOVE the way this is written! Also, highly enjoyed the supporting cast of Julian's family. All in all, a very clever story & a great read! : )
