About the Author
Carolyn Jewel was born on a moonless night. That darkness was seared into her soul and she became an award-winning and USA Today bestselling author of historical and paranormal romance. She has a very dusty car and a Master’s degree in English that proves useful at the oddest times. An avid fan of fine chocolate, finer heroines, Bollywood films, and heroism in all forms, she has two cats and two dogs. Also a son. One of the cats is his.

I love reading romance books and this one didn't disappoint, it was a great book to read and it kept me so interested that I just had to finish it before I could go to sleep. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books.
The main thing reason I only gave it 3 stars was because I felt like the character development and romance (referencing feelings, not sex) suffered from the multiple sex scenes and base references to the attraction they supposedly felt for each other. It came across as lust not love. I don't mind sex scenes if they propel the love story, but this was almost constant whenever they were together and still didn't convince me that they were falling in love. The sweetness of falling in love was lost in all the raunchy sex and sex talk. Even more bothersome was all the "f" bombs used to describe the act by both characters. That and other (modern) sex words and phrases used as descriptions and in the dialog did not fit the 1800s era in which the story was taking place. Normally, I don't get too upset if an author misses the correct language or actions for a specific time period, but this seemed harsh and snatched me out of the story every time. (I probably should point out that I don't particularly like the "f" bomb in any book and that could have influenced my reaction in this one.)
Like I said earlier, I don't know Ms. Jewel's work and maybe the sex scenes are her trademark. If so, and you are prepared, you might like this book. It really does have a good and sweet story, I just wasn't convinced I really knew the characters or believed completely in their love story. Thus the three star review. it just didn't work as well as it could have for me.
