I love these little controllers and this is one of the best in my opinion for portability. I ultimately decided to return it because I didn’t need the portability as much as I needed more keys… so I went up to the 37 key. But the functionality is mostly the same. If you are someone who plays mostly synth, looping, simple piano chords… this is perfect. If you are a bit more advanced on the piano and want a sustain pedal and have both hands on the keys… you may want to look at some of the bigger boards in this lineup. WORKS FLAWLESSLY WITH ABLETON. I was very resistant to ableton at first since I had already learned a couple of other DAWs, why move? well… for live looping, it’s hard to beat. And the integration with these notation products is just amazing. I have not ended up with a launchpad and launch key 37 as a result. So if you’re using ableton.. these notation keyboards are GREAT. I can’t speak to other daw integration because I don’t use them when I’m working in my other DAWs… I only use these products during live performances… not during production.

i tried four different midi keyboards and this is the one i’m keeping. i tried the arturia, the akai and an m audio.

this one felt best. it had great functionality straight out of the box. i did have to use ableton lite but my workflow is create a song in ableton and then import the audio into reaper to record vocals and mix. ableton lite only allows 8 tracks of recording and has some other limitations. this is a limitation of ableton and not the launchkey.

the launchkey has been wonderful. the keys feel great. they’re not weighted but they work well. the drum pads feel pretty good. not as great as the akai but i wanted a 37 key so this was really my only option for length. it’s intuitive enough and has a bunch of videos. i watched one that came with a tutorial i could download and mess around with. after about 10 minutes i was up and running in a daw i’d never used before.

highly recommend this unit.

The pads are perfect, the key action is one of the better ones for these small keyboards and the knob and pad assignments are great!

Only one big negative - the pads cannot be used to trigger Logic sequences like Ableton. You can technical do it with manual assignments, but it does not work out of the box like the Novation Launch pad.

Still, the best small controller I have purchased.

I came from the Launchkey mini and this was a huge improvement. The keyboard feel is better on the Mini version, but the fact of having more keys and control over Ableton and few other features embedded, as fixed chords, makes it amazing. Really good value for price and well built. I'd recommend.

A practical, fast and versatile addition to Ableton Live and production tool, for the price it is more an investment on your workflow as producer than a high quality keyboard, don't get me wrong, the keyboard is great, the keys sensitivity and response is quite good, the drum pads are particularly delightful, but it has some downsides like the key weight and the plastic feeling to it, otherwise is a hell of a machine, particularly enjoying the different modes like, scale mode, chords, drums, and the arpeggiator, definitely practical.
