If Chicago rapper Dreezy wishes to burrow further down and explore greater depths of her unique character and individual beliefs, drill and typical hood-hop may not be her most valuable tools to do so. With help from Interscope Records, the r&b-streaked trapstress from the South Side just released an EP, From Now On, on Friday Dec. 25, which postdates two previous mixtapes (Business N Pleasure and Schizo) and a collaboration with Common on his 2014 LP, Nobody's Smiling.

Dreezy (Seandrea Sledge) definitely has some bars here, albeit with one main gangsta concept throughout. Listeners will more than likely come to the project based off word of mouth and the production credits (from Metro Boomin and 808 Mafia), but they will stay for Dreezy's lively flow of witty lyrics. Just don't expect much more than street posturing and typical antagonistic braggadocio.

Dreezy is not so much one of a kind as one of a type on From Now On. In her quest to usurp the competition, she has took on an all too common persona, a sassy chick mask disguising the true person beneath all her tough, forced, urban bravado. For example, "Juice" has plenty of attitude, as she vies for the spot of lady leader of Chi trap, though at this point there aren't many rivals for the position. In "Money Printer," she portrays herself as a strong fem boss from the hood, and in "Serena," she again claims to be some larger than thug-life figure next to DeJ Loaf, with whom she shares a few stylistic traits.

For all her lyrical skill and effort though, we never get to know the real Dreezy. She has the rhymes, but she just needs the time, desire and artistic freedom to share her personality and philosophy more (much more).

There isn't a single song I have to skip on this which is pretty rare for me these days (even with an EP) so I applaud Dreezy for that! I have not been able to stop listening to this since it came out either. If you like Dreezy then be sure to check out her album that is dropping this July 15th & support her! I think she is going to go very far with her music :)
