I am a proud owner of celiacs disease and my body has never agreed with whey protein powders. If they wouldn't make me sick they would at least give me a boatload of gas and indigestion. Now Pea Protein goes down incredibly smooth and causes me no problems. I've also struggled with all whey protein powders having an artificial taste, texture and smell to it that turns me right off.
For the first month or so I could definitely sense the pea flavor of it, but I personally liked it and it is quite neutral. A month or so later I discovered how to make protein-shakes(something you simply MUST try, it's a totally different game that way), I realized how perfect this mix is. It's basically a clean slate that is PACKED with protein and no artificial flavoring, which allows you to add anything you want to it and make your own creation. It's the vodka of protein shakes. I personally loved the thicker, chalkier texture of this stuff as well, though my tastes are admittedly out of the ordinary.
The 28g of protein is fabulous, making the mix extremely cost efficient, especially considering you could honestly use a smaller scoop-load and still get a good amount of protein in. The amino acid counts are great and the lack of carbs is very good.
If you're in the market for a cleaner source of protein and are allergen prone, NOW protein powder comes highly recommended.
P.S. I always buy 2 containers at a time, usually running me around $38-40$, which is a great value in my opinion.

I received this and I'm used to protein powders so I'm not worried about the lack of flavor or chalkiness but WHY DOES IT SAY "this product contains a substance known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm." ?!?!!?!! Although I'm not pregnant or tying to become pregnant, I'm still pretty worried about this. Why would this product cause reproductive harm?? I didn't see this on other reviews so I'm not sure if this is widely known or if mine was the only one with that sticker.

This is my FAVORITE protein to make shakes with - it's got almost no carbs, it blends great, and digests so easily that I get an energy boost immediately after drinking. I go through this stuff like crazy! Blend it with frozen bananas, almond milk, a little bit of peanut butter for fat and ground flax (like I do), and you'll love it too. Yay, pea protein!!

Some of these reviewers are trying to deny that pea protein has a bad taste and are insisting the taste is simple "unflavored"...I'm writing to say that It Honestly has a bad taste, not just because it is unflavored. It is also the texture. I have been using unflavored whey before trying this and had absolutely no objections to the lack of flavoring. I expected to be fine with the unflavored pea protein thinking as a vegetarian almost my whole life, "health food" is a taste I am used to. Pea protein so far, plain, is almost gag worthy. The texture isn't gritty, it actually absorbs water so that it forms like a sludge if you don't put a lot of liquid in. I want to cut carbs so i don't want to try mixing it with sugar juice. My sister has used it in a fruit shake and says she didn't taste it at all! My boyfriend mixed it in Fresh carrot juice and was happy with the mix (peas and carrots!) I am going to try two tactics, watering it down so much that the taste is very mild...and if that doesn't work, I'm thinking Tomato juice. I am kind of...determined...to make this low cost, high quality, animal friendly protein Work for me.

***UPDATE***I have been drinking a scoop diluted in about 16 ounces of water, half before and half after working out in the morning. I am now completely used to the pea protein taste when it is watered down. I have also started sprinkling small amounts on vegetable stews at dinner time and taste blends easily. Taking the time to get used to it was worth it.

one serving contains 330mg of sodium or 14% of RDA. It does have a subtle salty taste. just FYI if you're watching sodium intake.

Like many people I don't take to dairy (whey) or soy that well, so I decided to try this and I am glad I did, it digests so well, no gas, and blends in great with smoothies.

First off, I'm a vegan. I'm excited at the number of choices we vegans now have of protein powders. Soy protein isolate is still my favorite, because it tends to be cheap, has all essential amino acids, and has a high ratio of protein to calories. But I don't like putting all my vegan eggs in one basket, so I have other protein sources as well. This pea protein powder is comparable in cost and protein per calorie to soy protein isolate. So from the nutritional specs alone, I'd say it's a 5-star product.

Where it lost a star for me is the texture. Yes, others have also mentioned this, and they're right. It's a bit gritty, almost like fine sand. You can let it soak in water for a half hour, and it's not going to change that fact, unfortunately.

Now, the way I've been taking this is with some unsweetened kool-aid and Stevia sweetener. It tastes pretty good that way, but the grittiness is there. One way to avoid it is to dilute it with more water. I'm talking about 30-40 grams of powder per liter of water. Then you don't notice the grittiness very much.

Alternatively, you can blend it with one banana, one cup of soy milk, and 1 cup of some berries. Or use whatever type of milk you want. If you use those amounts, you'll end up with a pretty thick smoothie. It will go down a lot better than having a watery liquid will. And you can increase the concentration of the protein that way. But yes, you will get extra calories. They're "good" calories since they come from good things, but they're still extra calories that you might be able to do without.

Personally, the grittiness is not a big issue for me, even with the kool-aid method I mentioned above. I don't find myself gagging on it.
