The receiver is easy to use, just plug into an outlet. We tested the bell to see how the strobe worked, and it isn't very bright. Tried about 6 outlets in great room, and none were really very bright to attract much attention, and the room is somewhat dark to begin with.
The doorbell doesn't have a light on it, so night-time visitors could see it. I called Nutone customer service, and they said they do not have a lighted doorbell for any of their wireless door chimes.
There are no instructions for finding the right jumper configuration to get the ringtones. Even their webpage was no help. Many who wrote on the company's Q and A webpage complained about this. Some asked how to adjust it for different ring tones, and Nutone's unuseful reply was:
"Thank you for your question on the model LA203WH wireless door chime. This model is capable of having 3 different sounds and can distinguish between 3 different doors. The 3 sounds are determined by changing coding "jumpers" on the pushbuttons. For further assistance, please contact our Technical Service department at 888-336-6151."
I did have to call for understanding how to set the Westminster chime:
Keep all of the upper six numbs in place. On the bottom three, remove the one which is on the top.
The customer service lady was sorta nasty, making snide laughs when I asked questions, both times I called.
They include a rubber gasket to put around the case of the doorbell, and two long screws with plastic hole inserts for the bell. The holes are different than the prior bell, so had to use a drill to make two new holes... sort of a nuisance. Also, bell is skinnier than most buttons, so you might have to paint new around it. Button small, but a different color so a bit easier to see.
This is the third doorbell set we've tried, and we are tired of trying others out. We're gonna have to buy three more receivers to put around the house so they can be heard and seen. That gets expensive.
PS. Just figured out to use an extension cord, plug the chime in, and hang it off a lamp shade, so it's higher for the sound and light to be seen and heard better than behind end tables.
See my review for the three receivers we ordered.
Not such a great product after all. I'm on the third unit and the strobe has died. I was just commenting that this one was working well the other day. I must have jinxed it.
There has been a low level hum on all of these doorbells. The first one stopped ringing, I forget how long it lasted. The second one started to make strange squealing noises and then crapped out.
Why buy a failing product three times? Optimism, stupidity, who knows?
I will look for another doorbell but when this one worked, it worked well and did just what I needed.
I would like for it to chime more than on time. But my hard of hearing mom can hear the chime and see the flashing light.
So it did what I wanted product to do.
