Editorial Reviews

"A well-documented and often suspenseful dramatization of American military engagement." - Kirkus Reviews

From the Author

I would like to acknowledge my father, who not only provided valuable military expertise in this piece of historical fiction but also shared intimate details of his military career. Despite his training as a fighter pilot, combat experience and military training, he always kept his work on the flight line or in the air, providing my siblings and I with a stable father figure during the 1960s, a decade of great American upheaval. Many of the adventures in this story are inspired by actual events in his military life. I loved my years as a kid growing up as an "Air Force brat" and had no clue about what his training and missions really were. I suppose that's the point - veterans like my father and Peter Moriarity, my step-mother's first husband, who gave his life for his country in battle, did their jobs so the rest of us could thrive without strife, without conflict and without waking up from nightmares of nuclear holocaust. Being able to be a top-notch fighter pilot and instructor at work and a regular Dad who never bragged about it at home is the sign of a true hero.  I love you, Dad, and strive every day to be like you.
