I have an S4 that I still love, bought a Pioneer DDJ SX and played with it for a month and returned it. This mixer is by far the best because of it's build quality, flexibility, tight controls and feel. With all the amazing midi mappings out there this machine and Traktor software can't be beat. Serato's new 4track software does not have no where near all of the options/flexibility that Traktor and the Numark 4Trak has. The Pioneer's bottom is plastic and limited with platter problems and the S4 is amazing, but does not have the feel and build of the Numark 4Trak...I've tried the NS6 and Vestax units and this is by far the best...The machine also look sweet and professional, especially when placed into an Odyssey case (getting tons of compliments because it looks like a real expensive machine-awesome actual price). Numark has been stepping up their game big time since the NS7 and have the best unit in the market with the Numark 4Trak. Traktor in general just is leaps and bounds better than Serato Dj (good for plain regular djing but creativity and growth limited. Traktor Rules period). I also managed to map the sample pads onto the unit so with the custom mappings the 4Trak has more options than the S4. The tune modification knob is absolutely sick when used with Traktors wealth of effects during buildups. I play hip hop, house, trance, reggae, salsa, merengue, bachata, dubstep flawlessly with Traktor. It is better for mixing than Serato, with beatgriding or mixing by ear/wave.

Completely everything I wanted in a traktor control console.

I'm very impressed with this. My only issue is running it in 4 Deck mode on my 13 inch MBP is almost impossible as I cannot view my track loader because of the diminished size.

Also, the free version it comes with only has 6 audio effects, which is annoying when you're used to having "too many" effects to work with. They are great effects though, and definitely have gotten me through some great sets.

As an experienced dj who doesn't want to hand pioneer $4000 for a set up, this is definitely where it's at.

I just want a coffin case for it though :(

Happy Mixing =D

Bought by my husband, he loves this Traktor controller. He's had for over 2 years, and never had any issues with it. Stainless steel exterior is heavy duty, very durable, the effects controls are easy to use and very reliable. The Traktor interface that is included is seamless and works well on his MacBook. Would by Numark again, and would recommend to anyone.

I've owned this controller since August 2013? Yea, about that time-ish, and so far, I've had a few minor issues that came up expected as this controller ages.

One of my upfaders is finnicky and will occasionally "dance" down or mute, even when the controller is all the way up. I tried using contact cleaner to fix it to no improvement. May need to replace the upfader myself (about $20), though a bit of a ghetto fix I've rigged is to glue a card aligned against the fader's post as keeping constant pressure to the left on the fader's post seems to solve the issue (for now).

One of my channel's hi knobs initializes to 100% to the right when it should initialize to the middle. I need to turn it all the way to the right, then the left, then back to the middle before I mix.

The 1/4th jack on the front is unreliable. Not an issue since I usually plug into the 1/8th anyway.

Overall, yes I've had some issues but given I've owned this controller for 2.5 years and the minorness of these issues, its still pretty good. Controller's a bit out of date now, you may want an auxillary controller (like a MIDIFighter) to control some extra stuff and maybe do cue drumming or whatever, but if you can find this controller for about $400ish or under, its still a great mid-tier controller, above entry level but maybe not quite where the DDJ-SX or Kontrol S8 or a CDJ setup are in the world. Would still recommend in 2016 if you're willing to pair it up with extra controllers if you want more buttons for cue points or stuff.

EDIT: Review previously complained about Numark's lack of Windows 8 support. I'll leave my original review below for historical reasons, but as of now (Feb 2016), this controller has had Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 support.

The Numark 4trak had problems from the beginning. I plugged it in and the only midi device that showed up on my computer was the FX panel. The FX panel has a midi cable hard wired into it that plugs into the main mixer. Because I have a midi keyboard that I sometimes have to fiddle with the connection to get it to work, I did so with the Numark 4trak, and viola! It was a lot of fun, but then everything dropped and traktor stopped. I moved the connector again and traktor started back up, receiving midi signals once again. I played through a few more tracks before the same thing happened, but this time I lost all midi signals completely and sound. The mixer seemed to be fine, but the USB connection is lost.

I ordered a replacement, so hopefully I just had really bad luck...but I have to pay shipping, and I doubt it will be cheap. My advice would be to go to a local store and pick one up, I wish I had.

The reason I am giving the item 3 stars, is that quality control was lacking or build quality wasn't that great for it to have been glitching out from the get go. Should actually be 2 stars for that reason, but other people seem to have had good luck, and the sound quality and controls were great while they lasted. Finally, this is a feature rich mixer at a reasonable price.
