I received the product today and it shows 5% sugar in two spots (see photo).
The dye is a little gross and can make the whole process messy (if any of the lose tea gets wet it leaves a bright orange puddle!! im not sure if it stains but if you get to it asap it comes up), mess aside its worth it. Still tweaking the recipe a little, but its good, and will save you some cash if you are like me and go out for your daily coffee/milk tea.
I noticed that that if I let it steep too long it gets sour, so don't let it sit for longer than about 30-45 minutes, from there I pour it out through a tea strainer, lined with a coffee filter, as some of the grain is so fine it slips through without a paper filter.
Here is my recipe
16 OZ Iced Thai Milk Tea (STRONG)
4 TBS of lose leaf tea into 1 cup of hot water (let steep for 15-30 mins)
3 TBS sugar
1-2 cups of ice
1/4 ratio milk at the end (almondmilk or soy)
(poor milk very slowly to create Ombré separation)
Glass Jug or other container that won't stain or absorb smells
Enough Cups of water to almost fill the jug
2 Tablespoons of Thai Tea per Cup
1/4 Cup of granulated sugar for every 2 Cups of water (I like "sugar in the raw")
Boil water and then add tea using thai tea filter (I use the one from Cornucopia. Available on Amazon). Brew tea for 5 minutes (7 minutes for strong tea). When tea has finished brewing add sugar and stir until it is all dissolved. Allow to cool before putting in glass jug. Store in refrigerator until cold. Serve over ice with a little half n’ half poured on top.
