That's because we have an obsessive-compulsive semi-geek MC in Brandon (background on the cover), and a focused but also extremely protective ex-SEAL bodyguard in Daniel (foreground). The latter is assigned to protect Brandon and his sisters Hannah and Yvonne, in a continuation of the plot unleashed in the past two editions of the series.
Though the sisters are sometimes uselessly distracting, and the fierce reasons Brandon is so protective never revealed, it is the clash of personalities, goals, and instincts between him and Daniel that keep the plot moving--even if Brandon does slide off the edge at times in his duplicitous approach to solving the task at hand (no spoilers).
This is a fast read like all the others, and the love making is haphazard at times but eventually well settled. Author Scott has created a terrific organization in Sanctuary and a plethora of hot men and hot plots to keep you chewing your nails all night long. Bravo!
Very rushed, not a love story of even a romance novel. It's a story about autism dressed as an action novel.
The lifeline about the Varga guy is just down right creepy.
If you do but this, do not, repeat do not, read the ending! That little bit is just beyond stupid. For a while I thought it was a joke, but apparently not so.
All in all, not up to scratch.
The chemistry between Daniel and Brandon was off the charts. Who would have thought a hot Seal would fall for a geeky numbers guy? I DID!
The way the story unfolded, the attraction, amazing sex, mixed in with a bit of teasing, harassment between Brandon's and his sisters which ended up including Daniel and a sisterly a side bet thrown in.Danger was woven in with a bit of "ewww" that Brandon experienced when he tried to fix things on his own...silly boy...or maybe not. I know, I am confusing you, but what better way to give you some high points and adding enough mystery that, had you been undecided about buying this, which in itself is silly, well now you KNOW you have to read this book! Also, we get to see some of the guys from the previous books and THAT is always great
I LOVED Brandon and Daniel's story..you will too.
Poor Brandon's mind is full of numbers and because of that he is hiding out with his sisters at Sanctuary headquarters where he meets Ex Navy Seal Daniel. They plan on taking down a criminal the Sanctuary way but Brandon has other ideas.
Congratulations RJ Scott.
It's hard for me to write a review for just this book without talking about the entire Sanctuary series, but, since I already wrote the series review, I'll try to keep this one just to the final story, By The Numbers.
The underlying mystery arc for the Chicago office of Sanctuary that began in book 8 is wrapped up neatly in this series finale. Daniel, former SEAL and new Sanctuary operative, is tasked with protecting Brandon, who was brought to Sanctuary in book 9, Ghost. Brandon has information that will help Sanctuary bring down the bad guys. Sanctuary promised to keep Brandon and his sisters safe in exchange for the information.
Brandon is attracted to Daniel but he has secrets he's keeping from Sanctuary and he knows that they can never be together because of those secrets.
Quirky Brandon is getting to Daniel and slowly driving him crazy. He's attracted to Brandon but won't act on it because Brandon is under his protection.
Like all of the books in this series, I found this one to be compelling with a lot of suspense, action and romance. Brandon is one of those characters that I was never sure what he was going to do next and following along with action in the book kept me glued to my e-reader. There were some extremely tense moments but there were also tender moments (between Brandon and his sisters as well as between Brandon and Daniel) and things that made me smile.
The best stories for me are ones that put me through the full gamut of emotions and books by RJ Scott never fail to do this. For that reason, and others, she remains firmly on my list of favorite authors even though I hate it when she ends one of my favorite series. <smile>
