I had left my job at the hospital feeling beat, down and ready to leave nursing altogether. I am in my 50's, and had started feeling like I was trapped with no where to go. I got this book for free and thought "why not". Spent the next day reading this book. The first chapter didn't wow me at all, but as I continued to read this book, I realized that Carmen really knows what she is talking about. She really knows the realities of the market and her advice is sound. Even the "outside the box" examples are real and can be implemented by anyone. They aren't just ideas that are so far fetched that only one or two people in the world could do them. Because of all her ideas, I now have a new plan and a roadmap. I am once again excited about a future in nursing. I would recommend this book to any one in nursing school or experienced in the nursing field. It is well worth the cost of the book!!! Carmen, I can't thank you enough!
Nurses, Jobs, and Money was a fantastic read! As a newly graduated nurse, I was searching everywhere for advice to make the best decision heading into my new career. This book gave me exactly that. It gave the courage to pick up and move across the country to take the best job opportunity and I do not regret this decision. I would recommend this to not just new nurses, but nurses everywhere as it appeals to nurses at every step of advancing towards their dreams. It’s a must read.
What this book teaches you is an in-depth detail guide to how to approach your nursing, something that school or the nursing job teaches you! From an extraordinary person, Carmen Kosicek provides a wealth of information from her own experience to nurses who want something more. What I mean extraordinary is she has a global view of nursing career for its just more than being a bedside nurse, just filling out an application, going from one hospital or another health care facility. No, Kosicek gives a person the view of how one can be successful from returning to school for education, protecting your investment (RN license # should not be public, you'll know why!), and so much information I actually had to take a glance at my Kindle to see which of many chapters I liked to mention.
This book, is an investment for those who are beginning their career, working in their career, and going to plan to retire from this wonderful, blessed career. I should know, Im a nurse.
If your already a working nurse do not waste your money on this book. It's more geared for those wanting to become an RN or those that have just started school/ are looking for a nursing program. Useful information but the book has some pretty common sense stuff that one I should already be privy to.
Worth reading!! Whether you are a student, new graduate nurse or an experienced nurse, this book will "MENTOR" you to bring out the best in you..a step by step guide as you journey to your career goal. Miss Carmen shares her knowledge, wisdom and gives a new perspective for nursing roles besides traditional bed side care. It teaches you to be empowered giving a sense of direction in whatever path you decide in your nursing career.
This book is wonderful! It really gives a realistic perspective for new nurses. I just graduated in May and I wish I had this book a couple years ago. It would have been a fantastic tool and resource for planning my goals and career objectives starting while in school. This book would be fantastic for any nurse, new or not. It gives such a realistic view of the career field. It empowers the individual to take their career into their own hands at any stage of their career. I can not suggest this book enough!!! I know I will read it, highlight and take notes to refer back to. Thank you to the author!!!
Nurses, Jobs and Money is a great book for nursing students, new grads, and even established nurses. This book will help you with everything from choosing the right college for you to finding the right nursing job for you. Plus there's much more in between, such as how to write the best resume to get hired and networking to increase your employment possibilities. This book was especially helpful for me because it made me realize that there is more to nursing than merely working the night shift in a hospital. Although I have always wanted to be a nurse, the mundane structure of the hospital was never very appealing to me. With Carmen's book, I was able to see that there are many other non-traditional positions available in nursing. Thanks Carmen!!
This book has a ton of information, advice, how to's and links. Well written in an engaging and personal style, she tells it like it is in the current economic climate and gives you tools and information to succeed- and much of the information can be applied to other licensed clinical fields in health care. It is generally geared toward students and new graduates but also has great tips on how to advance your career and also includes information on cost/benefit analysis of pursuing advanced degrees. It is a quick read but you will want to keep it on your bookshelf for a while to refer to when you are looking for that all important first job after getting your license.
