The book is fine, but definitely buy the paper copy. The kindle version is not indexed, meaning that you cannot search for anything unless you go to the table of contents, scroll through the available letters, then scroll through the list of diagnoses. This is so inefficient that I really have no choice but to buy the paper copy now. A complete waste of $40!!!!

Ive been using Amazon for years and this is my first one star review... Way to go guys.

Index the book and I will gladly revise my review.

Writing care plans is never, ever fun, but this book makes it as painless as possible. I'd recommend it to any nursing student. It takes a lot of the uncertainty out of the process by explaining the diagnosis, providing rational, interventions and suggesting related interventions by disease.

My school required Cox's Clinical Applications - Needless to say, I didn't buy it. I've read the reviews on here, and got feedback from other classmates who did buy it. I began searching for the 'best' care plan book, and I believe I've found it! This book is so easy to read, and all the information is laid out so well. Our clinical instructor said I did a great job with my care plan - I have this book to thank. You will not be wasting your money!

Review written from spouse:

I absolutely love this book! I use it for writing up all my care plans while pursuing my BSN. I have had other care plan books recommended/required by my professors, but I never use them because they're nowhere near as well-laid out and written as this book. I constantly have my peers ask to use my book, and many of them end up getting a copy of their own because its very user-friendly.

General layout: In the front of the book it has all the main and minor medical diagnosis with nursing diagnosis and related factors listed right underneath them. Then all you have to do is look up the nursing diagnosis which is alphabetized within the book! It also gives you a complete care plan without all the BS that Ive found in other care plan books. Overall this book is meant for both student nurses and nurses within the field. Get this book, you wont regret it!

This book is a must have. If you are a nursing student especially, you NEED this book. It will help so much in writing your care plans. It has the rationales needed and the diseases. I recommend buying the taber's encycloedia with it, though because I think togther they work even better. This book is a great help.

This book is the best book that I have found for writing care plans. It has saved me time and helped me get better grades. All I have to do is look up the disease and it gives me a list of possible nursing diagnoses, goals, rationales, and everything I need when writing a care plan. I shared it with a few of my classmates and they all want one. I shared it with one of my instructors and she wrote the name down saying that it was better than our current texts and she wants to use it in the future. Yes, it's that good!

I am a first semester nursing student and needed a care plan book. My instructor had a much older version of this book and it was very informative compared to all other books that students had purchased from the college book store. I searched the web, found a newer version of the book and received it in a short period of time. Care plans are a breeze now. Would highly recommend this book for any nursing students.

I have just graduated with a BSN from nursing school and thought this book was perfect for care plans. Unlike one diagnosis handbook I have seen (I can't remember the publisher), there is a directory at the front of the book that lists DISORDERS not diagnoses in alphabetical order and then possible diagnoses that may accompany it listed under each. You would think this is common sense but the other book I saw only listed the diagnoses in order, but in many cases, how can you pick a diagnosis if you don't know which one is appropriate for your patient yet!? After this directory, the diagnoses then of course, can be found in alphabetical order throughout the rest of the book. Possible "related to" and "as evidenced by" factors are also included with each diagnosis as well as sample goals, outcomes, and interventions. Real-life care plans are much more individual and often don't fit any one standard careplan but this is an excellent resource to get into the hang of how you should be thinking, especially for first semester nursing students and even after that to help you think of things you may not have considered. Most if not all the nursing interventions listed in the book are referenced, showing the relevance of evidence-based practice in the creation of it. This will be handy if you are also taking a nursing research class or other classes where they want you find evidence-based research for papers. Also, the back of the book has Maslow's Hierarchy and lists nursing diagnoses in alphabetical order per sub-category of the hierarchy. This was extremely handy and a time-saver because we had to include which level each diagnosis was addressing. Never second guess yourself about which specific category the psychosocial diagnosis you just picked for your patient is in!Read more ›
