I have purchased 3 of these 1 gallon coconut oil tubs at separate time over the past year or so to make 76 degree coconut oil soap. This works great for that, i have found that I can get about 40 bars at 3.5 x 2.25 x 1 inches and 20% super fat. I waited till after I had used 3 if the 1 gallon tubs before this review so I could note any inconsistencies, none found.I will be purchasing again for my soap making needs. At the time of my purchases price was under $17 at time of review $23.

I like this product a lot, and have bought it previously in the smaller size. It has a neutral taste, fries well at high heat, and I love that it is organic. What I don't like is the bucket it came in, or the preparation for shipping by Amazon. The gallon bucket had no inner seal of any kind, which seems like a pretty serious oversight. Amazon did not put any padding at all in the box they sent it in, which was another very thoughtless move. The combination of those two factors resulted in a bucket of coconut oil, totally liquid in the July heat, being repeatedly bounced off of the sides of its box and leaking every time it did so. The bucket was completely coated in oil, and oil had soaked into the inside of the box. I still had two old 54 oz containers from previous purchases of this oil that I had saved for storage. After a lot of cussing, and scraping my hand on sharp plastic when it slid on the oil, I managed to get the bleep-bleepity-bleep plastic strip off the edge of the bucket lid so I could open it, and transferred the new oil into the old containers. A gallon of oil equals 128 ounces. I transferred what should have been 128 oz of fluid into two containers with a combined capacity of 108 oz. So clearly I lost somewhere around 20 oz of oil to poor product packaging on the part of Nutiva and poor shipping practices by Amazon. I am really unhappy about the whole thing. I will buy this oil again, because it is good stuff and I use it almost daily, but I resent that the gallon container, which is a much more economical purchase, will probably need to be crossed off my list due to this experience. (Although it doesn't seem quite so economical when you factor in how much oil was lost, and how much of my time and effort it took to deal with the mess, etc.)

Edited on 071720 to add: Still love this product and highly recommend it! Gave in to temptation and bought the gallon bucket again because we go through a fair amount of this, and it is a much better deal in this size. Unfortunately, Amazon still does not understand that if you ship a heavy plastic bucket of full of oil in a box big enough for it to slide back and forth in, with barely any packing inside the box to prevent it from slamming to one side of the box to the other, the lid. Will. Pop. Up. Or. Off. Spilling. Oil. Everywhere. This time it popped up enough to contaminate the oil inside. They also put other things in the box with the heavy bucket of oil, which very luckily were two small soft items in plastic bags, so they survived the beating from the bucket, and while the bags are covered in oil, the items inside are not. I will credit Amazon with immediately offering to replace the ruined oil, but of course, I have to wonder if it will be the same issue all over again when the new bucket gets here. If you do order this oil in the bucket size, I advise you to order it a few days apart from any other orders you want to make, so they aren't tempted to put other items in the box. And just know that until this problem finally registers with Amazon, it's a roll of the dice whether your bucket will be full of oil, or the shipping box will be. : /

I bought this to use for deep frying. I know frying is not terribly healthy, but I figure if I'm gonna fry, I might as well at least try to be as healthy as possible. From my research, coconut oil seems to be healthier than other oils, but do your own research just the same.

The bucket is 'hard' sealed, meaning you have to break a thick 360 degree seal, or cut it open, which is nice because you know it hasn't been tampered with. The lid has an o-ring gasket; mine had absolutely no leaks from shipping; it was slightly liquid when I got it (probably from a warm UPS cargo truck). At about 75 degrees F. room temperature, it is solid like soft butter. I actually found that to be convenient, because I could spoon it into the fryer - no mess! There's no appreciable odor when cold or when it is in the fryer at 355 F. At my fryer's max temperature of 375, it did not smoke. At my cooking temp of 340, no smoke either obviously. It did not impart any flavor to food. I made Panko-breaded chicken strips, french fries, fried bananas, doughnuts (not at the same time haha!) All turned out excellent. The oil did not seem to degrade like normal vegetable or canola oil, and after several fryings, it still seems 'fresh.'

Item Was Not Coconut Oil

I don’t know how to directly contact the seller but this is not coconut oil. I’ve used many brands of coconut oil, including Nutiva (previously ordered from amazon) and THIS order is NOT coconut oil. This bucket of oil has been liquid in form since the day it arrived and had a darker hue. Coconut oil solidifies under 76 degrees and is white, and clear when melted. This is not coconut oil.

I make handmade soap and it is so SO critically important to get the product ingredients right. Not only for consumer information but for lye safety and mixing. I’m disappointed that I have wasted money on this product that was not right in any way.

Please either refund me or send me the correct product.

I added this to make the base for my homemade salt scrubs. It was perfect. I sold out the first day I made it and have heard nothing but good things since. It's a great base oil with so many uses! I have also used it for my hot process soap and body butters. I am so happy I bought this. Nutiva is a great company with many good reviews, both on and off amazon. I'm very happy that this is organic and non-gmo. I just love this coconut oil!

I am very happy with it. I have used this type of oil for many years. It is a very healthy oil. I eat it more than I would wear it. I fry and bake with it. It does not break down fast like other oils would if you deep fry with it.
