So in my mind, I was expecting jam jars, but these are smaller than that-- think of the spice rack in the baking aisle at a grocery store. At first the smaller size seemed disappointing until I realized that these hold way more than I expected. That hexagonal shape really gives you more room than the classic round shape, plus the openings on these are large enough to easily fit a teaspoon into (a major improvement over standard spice jars). Your hand won't fit into these for cleaning, but you can mash a sponge in and reach the bottom thanks to their slightly squat shape. Wadding up a paper towel and mashing that around dries them out nicely. They had a slight manufacturing smell at first, but that disappeared with a quick rinse in soapy water. I'm personally on a bulk tea bender and wanted these to spruce up my tea station. I also used them for my hubby's favourite bulk powders. They are fantastic space savers for storing ingredients that you work thru slowly, because you can transfer a nice amount into these jars, then store the large original packages out your way. These jars came well protected in bubble wrap so there were no casualties. After spending so much time scrubbing off labels in hopes of repurposing other jars only to discover they were too embedded with food odours, it is SO nice to get my own brand new, matching set of functional glass jars. I would definitely recommend.
