This is Mrs. Howard and I'm now on my 3rd order of Nutribiotic Organic Rice Protein powder. I had been using Whey protein powders for years but I completely gave up using any dairy products around the beginning of 2015 to see if it would help my health and fitness goals. After doing a lot of research I came across this rice protein product and haven't looked back. This isn't the kind of powder that is going to win a taste test award if you just add it by itself to water or milk. However, because it doesn't have much of taste it's great for a protein smoothie with some healthy fruit. I make protein fortified breakfast bars, protein fortified coconut flour waffles, and I add this to my soups to thicken them up and balance out the carbohydrates. I put it in my cereal in the morning and I even mixed it in with some apple butter I found on Amazon for a great spread/dip. Try the Vanilla flavored version too, I like them both!
First off, I am a vegetarian and I was looking for a protein powder to supplement my diet just in case. I don't suffer from any obvious signs of protein deficiency or anything, so I can't speak for that. I try to stay away from whey since it gives me stomach aches and nausea, so I've been trying this out. I was reading that pea protein powder is completely lab generated (not sure if it's true) so I got this one, though I'm not sure if this is lab-made as well. At least I'm trying.
I mix two tablespoons with a glass of plain water mostly because I just want to keep it simple and it's fast. If I wanted, I could mix this with almond milk or chocolate syrup or something to make it tastier. The packaging doesn't say how much water I should mix it with, so it gives you free reign on that based on your preference. It doesn't have a certain labeled flavor or anything, but basically it tastes like brown rice. It's not great...but it does the job and that's all I'm concerned about during my busy weekdays. Picky people would probably not like this too much.
This is the most grainy, gritty protein powder I've had so far. Imagine mixing fine sand in water. It never really mixes, it just kind of swirls around and settles if you let it sit for too long. Maybe I'm putting too much powder for the amount of water I'm using. Anyway, it feels gritty in my mouth.
Still, this is a great value, it's vegan, hypoallergenic, organic, and seems healthy enough. I feel like the protein is close enough to the original source, so that makes me feel a little safer. This is a pretty large container too so it will last me a while. It's pretty simple and straight-forward, and that's what I was looking for.
This is the best deal on here that I could find... I tried many different whey proteins, all with ill effects to my stomach / throat covering up with mucus... Disgusting.
On the vegan front I tried Orgain (delicious flavor, too many strange sweeteners for me) and sun warrior (tastes like a sugar bomb, so much Stevia- absolutely disgusting).
I think the bad reviews here are from people who drink frosty diabetes shakes from fast food restaurants or Starbucks. Sugary food shouldn't exist in the human diet, this tastes amazing- mixes just fine...it tastes like, guess what, brown rice powder. And guess what- you can put whatever you like in your shake (I think the bad reviewers should've out 60g of white sugar in it to please their palettes).
I mix mine with a scoop of yellow pea protein- that way you get the same amount of complete essential aminos that are in whey- then a frozen banana and whatever else you feel like (peanut butter, yogurt, bee pollen, chia seeds, honey- whatever).
Absolutely delicious, looking forward to years of using this... Finally an organic protein with no fake flavors and doesn't taste like a pile of sugar.
This product is very tasty! It is plain (as shown on the container) which is exactly why I bought it. I mix a lot of different protein shakes & bake with my protein powders so in order to ensure the flavors came out right in my final product, I wanted a plain product. The additional advantage of opting for a plain powder as opposed to a flavored powder are macros; ie (nutritional content). Flavored powders tend to have additives even if only in the form of stevia, which contains less that 3g of calories & as per the USDA, manufacturers can state the product contains zero calories. If a person were to mix up 3 shakes per day with "0" (actually 3 or less calories), one who was very serious about watching their caloric intake could actually have consumed up to 9g of calories! All this to say, the powder blended very smoothly in a blender (I didn't try it in a shaker as I have never been pleased with the outcome of any powder mixed in a shaker) & any flavor (berry, vanilla, butter, chocolate, etc) I added to the shake was nicely accentuated in the final product. The banana nut bread I made came out delicious!
