I came across the Nutrition Diva's podcast a while back and it was love at first listen. Monica Reinagle is able to express what is healthy in terms of science (not hysteria or fad). Her research is objective and extensive.

I recognize some of the content from her podcast and newsletters in the book, and it is really nice to have all that information in one place (that can be highlighted and post-it noted!) However, the information in there is not simply a written version of what podcast fans have already heard. There is quite a bit of new information.

Reinagle gives advice for shopping, stocking your pantry, and how to handle prepackaged foods. Possibly my favorite part of the book is the second half which consists of a diet makeover for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacking, desserts, and drinking. The book also contains some healthy recipes.

If you are a fan of the podcast or simply someone looking for a comprehensive book on nutrition that you don't need a Ph.D to read I would highly recommend this book.

I am a nutritionist for a chain of grocery stores, so I'm pretty familiar with healthy eating. Sometimes I get so caught up in my work world that I forget that most people have never really learned much about nutrition at all--and this book is the perfect tool to help with that. I do run across people who want to start at the beginning and totally revamp how they approach food, and they don't know where to start. Secrets for a Healthy Diet puts all the information in one place and presents it in user-friendly--but never condescending--terms. It all seems simple and achievable, and clearly sorts fact from fiction. Each segment--from grocery shopping to cooking--is broken down into segments that allow the reader to build upon each step of knowledge.

I like how Monica goes into detail to explain foods such as grains--so readers know what to look for when they shop. Her overall theme keeps returning to the idea of eating real foods, not chemicals, and looking for foods in the ingredient labels you find--rather than chemicals and additives. Her tone is conversational--nothing feels like a lecture. Instead, it's a discussion you'd have with a more-experienced friend. It's not threatening.

The world of food and nutrition is full of conflicting opinions, and Monica takes the time to explore the pros and cons of food topics, leaving the reader to make the final decision, based on personal criteria. The section on artificial sweeteners never really promotes one type over another, but instead lists the various choices, and then gives an overview of each item, going over the negatives as well as the positives. It's that trust--the belief that the reader is an intelligent person who can weigh the evidence and come up with their own decision--that resounds throughout.

I'm a nurse, but learning about exercise and nutrition is my passion. This book has got to be the best I've read on nutrition. It's full of info, but not boring. It's very easy to find any topic you're looking for more info on, or you can just read it through. The recipes are very good as well-super easy and delicious!!

This is BY FAR the most helpful book I have ever read on nutrition. The author does an excellent job educating her readers on what truly matters when it comes to eating right. It is not a PLAN or a DIET, but a book on what is the best food to fuel your body and very practical tips on ways to make that happen. I have to really like a book to take the time to write a review and I LOVED this book! Buy it! You will not be sorry.

In 2011, Monica Reinagel has exploded on the scene with one of the most-listened to health podcasts on iTunes called Nutrition Diva's Quick & Dirty Tips, a fabulous accompanying blog with lots of recipes and commentary about nutrition called Nutrition Over Easy. She adds to that this awesome new book entitled Nutrition Diva's Secrets for a Healthy Diet: What to Eat, What to Avoid, and What to Stop Worrying About.

Life has been good for this low-carb friendly nutritionist who told me she was actually inspired to take her passion for healthy living and expand it to a wider audience after appearing on my podcast three years ago. How cool! Now Monica is seeking to change the world one listener at a time on her own show by educating them about a wide variety of topics related to their diet and the impact it can have on their health. There's a lot of terrible information being spread out there about what constitutes a healthy diet and I for one am glad to have somebody like Monica Reinagel sharing the truth!
