Functions well in that it communicates easily with the wireless unit. It's very handy to be able to walk away from the oven/smoker/grill and still monitor what you're cooking. the display is easy to read as well.
It's very annoying to use! Each time you turn it on, it defaults to Celsius. It's easy to push the button to switch, but it's just another step to go through. The most annoying part is you have zero control over the alarm and/or the temperature at which is goes off. For example, you're locked into a type of meat (e.g. Beef, Chicken, Pork, Turkey, etc) and what they determine as the proper temp (med/well/rare/etc). So, when I want to smoke a brisket to 190 degrees, i have to turn the unit off until i want to check it again because there's no way to disable the alarm or increase the target temp from their "well done" setting of 170 degree.
If you're ok with not being able to set the target temp, this unit is fine for you. If you'd like to have more control, opt for a different unit.
Total waste of money.
Nuvita out did themselves on this thermometer. It has a clear digital large screen and it's extremely easy to operate!. What you do is you get your meat out, prepare it and put it in its dish, place the metal probe into the meat, and on your large screen display you will click and select the type of meat you're cooking and then the range on how well you want it done and then the temperature. It's that simple.
If connected to a receiver that will go up to 572 degrees and also features a belt clip with a built in stand. The transmitter has a removable wire stand that also can become a hanger.
When you insert the food probe into your meat make sure it goes into about 6 inches. Do not put the probe wire into water or submerse it into water because you will ruin it. You need to hand wash it. This is not microwavable in case this needs to be said.
The base in the remote each take two triple A batteries and once they're installed you just turn the switch on and you're ready to go. I clicked on Turkey, then well done, and then the temperature that the package recommended and I didn't even have to worry about how many minutes to cook it because the display on the thermometer let me know when it reached the done point. It has an alarm that starts to beep when it's reached its set or determined temperature you have placed it at.
As you can see by my pics, it has a very long wire so you can set the probe into the meat, close your oven door and still have room to place the display unit on its unit which is also called the handheld receiver on the counter.
It has a really nice blue light that lights up a great digital display that is very clear to read. I cannot say enough about this thermometer and how awesome it is. It was just so much fun to use and I was amazed at how easy it was. If you are looking for a meat thermometer I would definitely recommend this one. This is the Cadillac of all meat thermometers in my opinion. I will not use another cooking thermometer except for this one.
It is well made with high quality materials, well thought out and its function and mechanics and extremely functional and easy to use and extremely user friendly!
Disclaimer, I was offered this product at a discounted rate for my unbiased and honest review for which I have given according to Amazon's TOS policy. However I would have bought this at full price because the product is extremely well made, very functional and its use, does an excellent job and definitely is the Cadillac model of all thermometers.
