Throughout this series, H.L. has made incredibly printed comments about life love, and even death. This time, however, I think she wrote this one for me. I've got SO many passages hoghlighted, things I wish I'd read about two years ago, before my separation from my wife.
I can't talk about it much, without feeling like I'd give a ton of stuff away...but H.L. you are wise beyond your years. I will say this...kudos again for a beautiful romance brought to life in words, without all the gratuitous sex scenes. Nyssa and Ellis have a beautiful, real, genuine
love and that's what makes them so special to so many...and it is part of the reason I cried through the last three chapters.
God, what a book. Easily my favorite of the series...and I wish the series wasn't ending with the next book. Anytime you get an itch to write about Nyssa Mrs. Burke, you'll have my attention. Bless you for sharing this story.
~Okay, first off, I’m a sucker for Christmas stories. That is really why I got this book. And I could not wait till the proper holiday season to read it…downloaded in October and read right away.
~This is NOT a stand-alone story…if you have not read the other stories you will be at a loss as to the relationship between Nyssa-Ellis-Theo- Amara. This story really is all about relationships, not much adventure or much suspense.
~It is a good piece of Christmas fluff. For me it was a “they all lived happily ever after” type of story. I enjoyed reading this story. I definitely recommend it for anyone who has read other books in the series.
This installment of the series doesn't have the high stakes that are typical of the other books, but as a holiday story it doesn't need them. As a fan of the series, I love that even with something as "simple" as creating the perfect Christmas for her family, Nyssa still finds herself in over her head. It's just so very Nyssa.
The end result of Nyssa and Ellis' struggles to get each other the perfect present are...well perfect! Each gift fits both the giver and recipient so well. I dare you not to smile and say "Aww, that's so sweet," when you find out what they are!
I was thinking this would go along the route of the The Gift of the Magi, and in some ways it did, but it was a completely unique spin on it that ended up holding only the same idea of The Gift of the Magi. Giving what you can from the heart.
Like so many people, Ellis and Nyssa spend the final days until Christmas panicking over making everything perfect. And Nyssa's secret present for Ellis causes more trouble than she plans.
I love the lesson of being honest, trusting, and slowing down during the Christmas season to focus on what really matters instead rushing around like a chicken with your head cut off and then being too _____ to actually enjoy the time.
And can I say I loved that we finally got an Ellis pov! (I think this is the first book I've seen it anyway)
I prefer the mystery and adventure of the regular stories, but it was nice to see Ellis and Nyssa having an interaction that wasn't fraught with intrigue and danger. Reading this will make you warm all over.
