Made from natural beechwood, this little mushroom nut cracker is just too cute to pass up. It looks adorable (and trendy) on your coffee table and makes a great gift. By twisting the screw cap, you can crack open the nut with much less force than is required of a typical nut cracker. Plus, the lack of pinching parts means you can even let your 3 year old go to town cracking open their own nuts! Made in Europe from FSC certified beechwood.
Top Customer Reviews
We've never owned a nutcracker before and I decided to buy this one instead of the "traditional" kind because the reviews mentioned that it was easy enough for a three-year-old. I found, however, that at times it does take a good amount of pressure to crack walnuts--I've only used this for walnuts so far. Sometimes I have to readjust the walnut because I feel like I'm going to hurt my hand if I continue. But then, at a different angle it does fine. I still gave the product 4 stars because I can see how it might be easier than other hand-held nutcrackers, but I don't have experience with those, so it could be about the same effort. I also like the design--it looks nice on the counter--and it does the job.
I've found that when I'm able to crack the nut vertically, then horizontally, I can keep the nut inside whole for the most part. I agree with another reviewer that recommended holding your hand over the hole because little bits of shell can go flying.
After the first use, the bottom of the screw got smashed, but I'm guessing that's normal with this wood and that the screw is long enough that it can wear down a bit without issue. The bottom left edge of the opening is also starting to fray like in one of the pictures on Amazon, but I should be able to sand it down if it becomes an issue.
