I got this kit to help make an SSD upgrade in my netbook easy. It definitely made the software transfer easy and really helped since netbooks do not have a optical drive. The software is a stripped down version of Acronis true image, it lacks some features but has the ones that matter for drive imaging. The only thing i couldn't seem to find was the option to redo partitions after a drive is imaged. The case is okay, it has metal sides that clip into a plastic center. Drive installation is a little tight but if one is careful it does fit exactly. Once the drive is in, the software installed, all you need to do is follow the software prompts. Nice feature is if your new drive is not the same size as you old drive it can adjust accordingly, even if the new drive is smaller. Pretty easy and straightforward, overall worth the money since it saves you the headache of reinstalling the OS, all the updates from years of running the same OS, trying to find drivers, programs, and all those files you forget to backup until you hit the reformat key.

Purchased this kit along with a 240g Sandisk SSD. As a first time owner of a SSD, I was curious if I could really copy my OS from my hard drive to the SSD. This kit performed the migration without a hitch, and I was able to boot from the SSD. However, the hardware that comes with this kit is pretty low quality. The external 'case' for the SSD is very cheap plastic, and was about 2 mm too short to fit the SSD. Luckily I was able to coax the adapter to the SSD and still perform the migration. But as soon as I was finished, the plug fell out of the case. The included sata cable is onloy about 6-7" long, so this could be a limiting depending on your motherboard/case setup. The software itself seems pretty solid, and of course allowed me to migrate the contents of my HD to the SSD. Boot up and load times are definitely improved. However, I would still advise people to run a clean install of their OS if possible to maximize the benefits of the SSD. But if you're stuck like me with a Dell or HP, with no OS disk, then this kit will work in a pinch.

Very nice upgrade kit. The external case is really nice and small. And, the upgrade software worked without a hitch. Considering the Acronis True Image software is $50, this is a steal of a price including the external hard drive case, cables, and 2.5-3.5 mounting adapter. Note that it's not the full version of True Image, some of the other tools are disabled. But, the drive mirror is fully there and works just like the $50 full version.

If only I could give this product less than one star. Be forewarned that the Acronis software included with this product can easily wipe out your USB controllers and render all usb ports useless. Also be aware that there is no support available for this software from Acronis. Took me two days to figure out what had happened. Tried every fix I came across. Ruined the holidays since it was my wife's computer that we used this software on in order to upgrade her laptop to a SSD hard drive. Finally googled "acronis killed my" , wait till you see all the results. This software is a menace. It may clone your drive but are you willing to risk losing computer functions and programs in the process? I even picked a restore point and lost a whole bunch of programs including iTunes, another disaster, took another 3 hours to get everything back to normal. What an unbelievable "train wreck". Buyer beware. Please google "acronis killed my" before risking all on this software. Too bad OCZ picked them. Seems many are having problems.

Good thing I didn't plan on using another 2.5 inch drive as external USB media, as when I unplugged the SSD, the whole adapter assembly came out of the plastic case with it. Still cna't get it to go back together. Have to take apart all the packaging to find the SATA III cable, looks like a could be II or III as it is so short as to not have a complete set of markings (9 inches). I really only bought for the cloning software and ease of using the USB drive for the cloning. For that, it worked great.

I purchased the OCZ SSD upgade kit (from Amazon) as well as an ocz ssd (from a local retailer) and a windows 8 pro upgrade (from Amazon) thinking that the acronus true image 2012 software in the upgrade kit would make upgrading to windows 8 and a solid state drive a snap. The hardware in the upgrade kit was satisfactory, the software was not. In over 25 years of working with computer hardware and software, rarely have I seen so many problems in a single software package. First I tried to clone my primary system disk with windows 7 to the new solid state drive, then upgraded to windows 8 which appeared successful, until the next morning when the system wouldn't boot. A review of the acronis knowledge base online revealed that this is a commonly documented and discussed, but unresolved, problem with the cloning feature of the Acronis software dating as far back as 2009. Review of the Acronis website pushed for an upgrade to the True Image 2013 version with additional features available. This was offered online for 29 dollars, i found an online coupon and purchased the upgrade for $19.00. I then attempted to clone the drive again, without success. I then made a backup of my original hard drive and tried to do a system restore to the SSD. The result is that the restore files successfully copied to the ssd but the system and system image files did not leaving the drive not bootable. The bootmgr files were not copied, for which a knowledge base search reveals that this too is a long time shortcoming of the Acronis software. I am presently on my 7th or 8th effort to remedy the problem without success. What makes my frustration level even higher, is that upon going to the Acronis website for support I was prompted to make an account and register my product and upgrade.Read more ›
