After installing the first one, I was astounded by the speed of these drives and very happy with the results. I promptly installed the rest of the drives in the other user's systems and everything seemed to go great.
Two weeks later, I had a user come to me with his system because he was getting a 'non-system disk or disk error' message. The computer was no longer detecting the drive in the system. I took it out and connected it to my desktop as a secondary drive. Nope, nothing there. I finally attached it to a USB adapter and still nothing. The drive was dead. Before the end of that week, I had two more failures identical to the first.
I contacted OCZ for support and told them the issue. I asked if there was anything I could do to get the computer to recognize the drive so I could recover some of the information. They promptly told me they could replace the drives but I would have to use a third party to try to recover the data. They didn't even answer my question or attempt any troubleshooting.
I've sent the drives in for RMA replacement but I simply don't trust their drives at this point. So far as I'm concerned, these drives are time bombs just waiting for another failure. I was fortunate in that I kept the user's old hard drives and was able to recover their data up until the point where I switched them to the SSD but all the new data was lost.Read more ›
Well, while it's working, i can tell you that impossible to return to the old hard drives again. I installed my ssd on an old vostro 1000 from dell computer and it's absolutely amazing the new speed and your new relation with your hardware. The speed is amazing.
I hope all the reviews don't come true! Except for the feeling that you could wake up and when you decided to turn on your desktop or notebook you won't get, i recommended the ssd technology and this ssd hard drive.
I have also have 15 Kingston 128gb drives that are older than these. All 15 Kingston drives (knock on wood) are still working great. The only reason I started buying OCZ is because they were cheaper at the time. I guess I got what I paid for.
Easy to install - INCLUDES rails to install it in a standard 3.5" bay in a desktop. Wish that had been specified originally. It sped up my old Core2Duo quite a bit and worked well for 3.5 months. Then it failed completely. Computer would no longer recognize the drive. Just started the warranty process - will update this review with results from that.
Changing from hard disk drives to solid state drives, like this OCZ drive, is a real speed increase.
Boots are much fast, application loads, and everything in between has sped up.
I have this as my boot-drive and only install important applications on this drive. All other applications are installed on a secondary designated hard disk drive.
The only problem was the installation was a bit of a puzzle. It didnt take too long, but I had to do a bit of research to get the Operating System to install on this badboy. Some people are lucky and its just plug-and-play for them.
Anyways, great product!!!
Applications are a breeze on this thing, just works, period.
If you're a first time buyer like me I highly recommend checking out:
Check out the Optimization Guide, really good read, even if you don't have a SSD yet can give you an edge on your HHD setup at the moment.
Otherwise great product, I cashed in on my rebate since I bought it back in April.
Thanks OCZ and Amazon. It's a good day.
