Works well as promised, except occasionally I will get an error during boot. Basically, the system will not recognize the hard drive and fault to "no bootable device found". Restarting will usually fix this (although I've had to restart a few times in a row). It does not happen frequently. Upgrading to newest drivers MIGHT fix this... Otherwise great.

I rarely write reviews of items that I purchase, but this OCZ SSD deserves some praise. I orginally purchased a Muskin Callisto Deluxe SSD, but returned it to Amazon because it was defective. Not wanting to take a chance on another Muskin I ordered the OCZ unit. I'm glad I did.

First let me say that this thing is so fast that, at first you can't believe it. It doesn't seem possible that an SSD can be so much faster than a mechanical HDD. I installed the SSD in a Asus UL80VT laptop with 8 GB of OCZ PC8500 DDR3 ram. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit rather than using the Asus recovery disks to avoid all the bloatware that Asus feeds you. I then installed Microsoft Office 2007 pro (Word,Excel,Outlook). The installation of Office took about 3 minutes. After the install I ran some benchmarks using Crystal. The numbers are 4-5 times better than the old WD 5200 rpm HDD. MS Word loads in the blink of an eye. Same with Excel. Documents load so fast that you have to see it to believe it. The UL80VT laptop is Known for long battery life( 10 hrs or more on a charge) and this SSD should increase that by 20% or more.

I use the laptop for running my business when I'm on the road and the OCZ SSD has greatly reduced the time necessary on the laptop while I'm Working. I tether the laptop to my Droid 2 phone and I can access the internet anywhere 3G is available...and very quickly I might add.

All I can say is...if you want speed ( and I do mean speed ) in your laptop or Desktop get yourself one of these little gems. You won't be sorry.

Pros:
Speed...blazing speed.
Increased battery life
Reduced heat
Slight decrease in laptop weight.
Puts Mechanical HDD's to shame.

Cons:
Price per GB of storage. However, over the next year or so the Price per GB should fall dramatically as more drive storage companies get on the bandwagon. The technology will most certainly advance and the prices will fall accordingly. When that happens larger capacity units will be within reach of average users. When you couple increased storage speed with faster processors that use less power you get the best efficiency and bang for the computing buck.

I highly recommend this product.

Good job OCZ. Good job Amazon.

I've been pretty satisfied with this product. Easy to set up and ok performance. Then it died after about 6 month of usage. I'm using it in a media pc - so no heavy load, just some Windows Media Center TV playback/recording. OCZ replaced the disk within 3 weeks. The new disk ran for about a year before the same thing happened again. I just filled a RMA. Whatever performance you are getting from this disk, is lost in re-installing OSs/drivers/etc and waiting for replacement parts.

I used a OCZ Core 30GB disk before in the exact same configuration without any problems (except the capacity).

Dead after 4 years. I thought SSD's are supposed to last longer than spinning disks.

This is a warning rather than a review as most of my reviews are. I usually don't review things unless I have come across and issue or discovered something.

This hard drive unless factory updated (which I doubt) will NOT work with any pre mid-2008 Macbooks when it comes to Bootcamp. Trying to boot any Windows Media, whether it is a CD or HD partition will not boot. It will hang on a grey screen indefinitely and never boot. The issue is with the Indilinx barefoot controller. It has a conflict with the older firmware issued on Macs. This issue effects many OCZ SSD's as well as Crucial SSD's and any other SSD using this controller.

Bootcamp works with the following:

Apple EFI 1.7 Firmware Update + (Also anything higher)

Any Macbooks made before the MID 2008 refresh are ALSO affected by this issue. 1.7 only will update mid-2008 Macbooks and beyond.

The problem can be solved if you update to Firmware version 1.5 or 1.6. To check your firmware version: In System Profiler (Apple menu --> about this mac --> more info) under the Serial-ATA window in hardware you should see your SSD. Look for the "Revision" next to "Model" and "Serial Number." That is your current firmware version.

This is purely a warning to those who have older Macs looking to boost their performance with an SSD. I took a star off because there is no warning of this and finding the information out took me almost a week after I struggled and struggled trying to get Bootcamp installed. (This of course was about 3 months after I purchased the drive) OCZ does NOT support firmware upgrading with a Mac and you will need to take out the hard drive and put it into a Windows computer to update it. (There have been reports of users updating the drives firmware on a mac using a method here: [Google this and click OCZ forum link: Something new for the Mac crowd (Indilinx SSD's)] you can also find more info using the same method as before but [MacBook Pro w/ M225 SSD can't boot from Windows CD/DVD & Boot Camp] instead.

The SSD is solid other than that. Been running 1.5 years with no issues (knock on wood ;D)
