This tool is completely adequate for occasional use on cars and light trucks with a two or three pound sledge. The surface does deform a little which means that the tool will stay wedged in the joint. This can be used to your advantage when the parts do not separate with normal levels of force.

On a particularly tight joint drive the fork into the joint with a half dozen blows. When the tool is solidly wedged in the joint, apply more penetrating oil to the seam between ball joint and A-frame, and leave the fork in the joint for a while. With the fork applying a load on the joint the fresh oil will penetrate further than before.

When you come back in a half an hour or so the parts will separate more easily.

This tool was delivered today for some front end work I needed to do on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler JKU. Feels like a solid tool and has a nice knurled grip. I've been beating this thing all day into stuck parts that just wouldn't budge and its holding up nicely. Not much else to say about this picklefork. One thing I will note is plan on replacing the parts that have rubber dust boots or if you can just the boot because this will tear them open.

It's a pickle fork. Not much to it, it is a good strength build (never warped and I beat the daylights out of it). Used this for a complete front suspension rebuild on a 23 year old GM that had never had work done. In short every joint on it was jammed up hard. Buy a mallet with it or make sure you have a strong heavy hammer.

This and a hammer mad removing the track bar on my 1999 jeep easy as pie. If you have a stock ball joint of any kind 9 times out or 10 this will not take it off by it self. A hammer is a very useful tool for a job that requires this.

Sturdier than the ones I bought locally and flares to a thicker thickness. With some others I've had to use two in order to break ball joint loose. With this one I've not had that issue. And it stands up well to a little hammering.

Used it on my 25 year old van with 300,000 miles. Needed to replace the ball joints and struts. Used a 2 lb hammer and sprepared the ball joints from the knuckle just fine. One one particularly stubborn ball joint, the fork spread slightly but I just put it on the concrete, rapped it a couple of times with the hammer and it bent right back into shape. Put it back on the knuckle and it separated just fine.

This is great for removing ball joints that are bad, but if you just need to remove the steering knuckle or other parts and need reuse the old ball joints use a different tool. This tool will destroy the rubber dust boots on the ball joint, and for most vehicles you have to purchase the whole ball joint because the rubber dust boots are not sold individually.
