The gimbal did come with a counterweight, which it said was designed for larger phones. Without it, the gimbal tilted in one direction, with the counterweight, it tilted in the other. I tried repositioning the phone, loosening the counterweight, and several times went through both calibration processes, but to no avail.
In addition, I tried using it, continually attempting to use the joystick to bring the camera to heel in a horizontal position, but that didn't work either. A good gimbal should at least have a built-in level bubble.
The gimbal does look nice, but it is uncomfortable in the hand: The handgrip, which is much too short of my medium size hand, is covered with a very thin plastic material, not really a grip. After about ten minutes of use, I could feel the counter-torque pressure in my wrist and elbow.
I had spent days researching a gimbal that would work with the IPhone 7 Plus, and several manufacturers claim that yes, ours also fit the 7 Plus, but it just isn't true. The phone is heavier, which requires a different balancing system and stronger motors. The Airbird Uoplay just didn't come close to the power needed to keep it stable during a shoot. There is no way such weak motors would ever handle the wind from a bicycle, the bumps of a skateboard, or the wind outside a car window at 30 mph.
A key to knowing that a gimbal won't work with a heavier phone is when they offer a counterweight. The counterweight actually introduces a new problem, impeding a clean flow from horizontal to vertical, and also doesn't allow the gimbal to be completely straight (and thus lower profile) when in the vertical mode.
I received my gimbal today from Amazon, and sent it back tonight. I'm going to wait for a company to introduce a smartphone gimbal specifically designed for heavier phones, which means a larger clamp and stronger motors. The downside is that it will likely also add a bit of weight.
AMENDMENT: Since writing this review, I have been in contact with Uoplay, who acknowledged that they don't even have the Android app published yet! They sent me a beta app, which was mostly in Chinese, which didn't even work. Every time I would try to record a video through their app, it crashed and had to be reloaded! And the gimbal would not connect to my phone through bluetooth so I could not connect it to my phone's camera app.
The software, and thus the usability of the gimbal, is so poor, that I just returned the product.
solid build, nice packaging, extra batteries, easy to use right out of box.
lack of Bluetooth/Wi-Fi support, frequent need to re-calibrate stabilizer, lack of English firmware update software and poor stability when using with a gopro, carrying case sold separately.
Packaging: The packaging is nice. This gimbal 3-axis stabilizer came in a nice white box with an image of the stabilizer on the cover. Opening the package, revealed the gimbal set in a molded heavy plastic that fit the device nicely. Other items in the box were placed in their own mold underneath the gimbal. These items included two sets of Lithium Batteries, A two bay charger, a counter-weight for use with larger phones, a Short USB cord and two instruction books in multiple languages. 5 out of 5
appearance / build: First impression on the build quality of the gimbal is great. The gimbal is mostly aluminum, the handle has a rubber grip for comfort, there are also rubber protection pads in the phone cradle to protect your phone from damage. The counter weight is solid and screws smoothly into its designated position without a problem. 5 out of 5
usability: This is pretty easy to use right out of the box. Just pop two batteries into the handle place your phone in the cradle (add the counter weight if you have a larger phone) there is a power button, record button and joystick. Long Press the power button to put the device into standby and quick press to power it on. Once it is the cradle springs to life and is some cases you will be able to start using it to stabilize your phone right away. There were several times I had to re-calibrate the gimbal because it started in a skewed position and wouldn't correct itself. Calibrating is fairly simple but having to do it so frequently was a bit annoying.
Here comes the bad part. The gimbal did a fairly decent job with stabilizing, but sometimes it would get wonky and start doing its own thing, like pan left for no reason or tilt up/down. The instruction said that the device transmitted a Wi-Fi signal to connect your phone. I followed the instructions to the letter and never saw an available Wi-Fi signal. Just in case, i also looked for a Bluetooth signal... no luck.
The item description states that this is compatible with Gopro action cameras which was a selling point for me and I would like to use both my cell phone and gopro. In order to use the gopro you have to put the device into portrait mode, which is easy enough. I have the Gopro 5. the cradle arms on the Uoplay clamp down somewhat tightly on the bottom quarter of the gopro. It stayed in their fairly decently, but it wasn't very secure so I was uncomfortable using it too much with the gopro. The results may be different with other gopro models or action cameras. 3 out of 5
Firmware Upgrade: The instructions advised to update the firmware by going to their website aibird.com. I was hoping that maybe this would correct the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi issue. This was nightmare. Their website is in Chinese. There is an option to translate the site to English but only parts of the site translated. The site is super slow and navigating it to find the proper firmware download is difficult. I was able to find the download and install it on my PC to which I was greeted with a firmware update software entirely written in Chinese. 2/5
I really hoped that this would work out. I did a lot of research on existing 3 axis stabilizers, including ones on Kickstarter. Based on other reviews and demos I thought this was the stabilizer for me. It's not. I believe the intentions for a good product are there and this may work for you if you didn’t plan on using with a GP or with a Wi-Fi connection and didn’t care about calibrating all the time.

I wish it would have different rechargeable batteries (strange size) and it would be easier to install them.
