So i ordered this rod thinking it would be just some extra rod to have and that my money really wouldnt go all that far, well i guess i was wrong. I ordered it and got it within like a week and a half. It came with a sleeve to protect it and man oh man i have got nothing but compliments about how beautiful it looks, which it does, but design it kinda looks like my ugly stick but you can immediately tell it is for salt water fish, the rollers it comes with roll pretty smooth and so far i have no complaints. when you see this rod you can tell its a good rod and so far i have pulled up everything i have hooked.

I did not purchase this rod from Amazon , I have had the rod for apox 3 months I have only given the rod a 4/5 simple because I haven't landed a monster shark with it yet . the largest shark so far is a tiger shark weighing in at approx 550-600 lbs @ just over 2.5 hr fight the shark pulled my robalo r 190 just over 2 miles with no moter assentance the rod handled the shark perfectly strong rod I just ordered 4 more rods someone just getting into shark fish and is financial strapped for $ this is the rod to get . I have also landed king mackeral and cobia with the rod but most impressed with how it handled the shark will review again when I land that monster hammer head

I could not find any reliable reviews on the Okiaya fishing equipment at the time I selected it, but here is my experience for the benefit of those still wondering...

I recently bought 4 x 80/130 Lbs. rods and 2 x 50W-2 reels made in China by Okiaya to catch tuna and mahi-mahi in the Caribbean...

After only 2 fishing trips and having only caught 16 tunas and no fish bigger than a couple 53#, here is the verdict:

- 2 of the rods are now rotating just above the reel and, as a result, have become useless since the roller guides are no longer aligned with line in the reel...

- One of the reels has threaded inserts to secure the rod mounting plate to the reel itself: 3 of the inserts have pulled out and the reel can no longer be secured to the rod...

- A half-circle metal fitting with adjustment pinholes is made of cheap chromed steel, instead of stainless steel and has already started to rust badly...

After another trip, I expect that I will have to throw away this useless junk and buy some better brand at a higher price, or some good used reputable reels for about the same price...

I purchased this rod last year and just had a chance to use it.I mounted a Penn Senator 14 on it with some modification, nothing big .On 06/23/16 , I hooked a 13 ft 2 inch Hammerhead Shark .It took 4 hrs to reel in and this rod was under more stress than any other rod I've ever had and performed excellent. The Shark weighed in at approximately 700 to 800 lbs.I am definitely a believer.

I can't give this 5 stars until I know that it will hold up for more than one tuna/yellowtail trip to Catalina. I wanted a reel to go with my Dad's old Penn Senator 14 from the 1970's and I didn't want to spend a ton of cash. Well, like always, I went to amazon, read the reviews and then researched the rod elsewhere. These rods are still kind of an unknown commodity , but so far, I can tell you the quality of the product is superior. The rollers look great, the rod is stunning, and it really does feel like it could handle a fish in excess of 100 lbs. The rod is actually labeled, "The Boss Hoss", on the shaft, something I thought was pretty freaking cool. Additionally, I had seen elsewhere in another review that the reel seat/clamps were plastic that was painted gold ; this was not the case and I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were metal. I'll write another a review after a few more trips and some more abuse to the rod, but so far so good. Beautiful rod, high quality materials, and as advertised.

Bought this and have 30-80 rod also. Will use this one with a Penn 12/0. Use for landbased shark fishing. Rod is E-glass. metal seat. Good materials for the money.

I have had two seasons with these rods, the Mack Daddy and another I think called a slammer or something. The rods work well to a point. I have had some trouble with the seat of one rod. The reel and rollers do not line up any more. I lost a roller wheel on one of the guides, there are no replacements to be found. Another roller center pin broke when I tried to remove it. They (Okiaya)do not respond to my email requests for information on replacements. Aftco rollers are just a little different in size and are not a good replacement. If I could get parts I would give them a higher mark. I have fished my other rods with aftco guides for decades without problems but if I had this issue it would have been easily solved. Maybe if you wash your rods with distilled water after each use they would last longer. The water in my area is very hard.
