In the handle is a compartment with two extra blades. This is the only part of the tool that feels like it could break. The hinge is just plastic, and it's not the heavy duty stuff the rest of the tool is made of. If you open the compartment to a fully 90 degree angle every time, I can see the "hinge" breaking eventually. The trick is to only open the handle just barely enough to get the blades out, and go no further. Since I know that, it shouldn't ever be an issue. I don't think it's worth deducting any points for such a small thing. Especially considering how surprisingly good quality every other aspect is.
The noise during scoring is horrible, but I expected that from other reviews. Score lines snap off cleanly and straight. The blade is very sharp and the grip was comfortable for my hand.
I own a few Olfa rotary cutters that have held up to loads of abuse, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this thing was a good quality item. I like that I can retract & replace the blade, the original one I bought did not have either feature.
-Has a screw knob to release the blade.
-Screw Knob allows you to adjust how much of the blade comes out.
-The diagonal Side of the blade is SHARP and can be used as a X-Acto Knife.
-The hook edge is what is used to "Score" the plexiglass/Acrylic.
-Black Grip area hold two extra Hook Blades. Can hold a Maximum of 3 Blades.
-Fully remove screw know to slide out the entire blade and holder. For easy blade replacement.
-Hard Plastic Good for the Job. Yet comfortable for long cutting sessions.
-Hook blade is adjustable based on needs
-Comes with 2 Extra Hook blades.
-Compartment for Holding up to 3 more Hook Blades.
-Would have preferred a rubber grip for more gripping power.
-If the Screw knob isn't tight enough, will cause the hook blade to retract when scoring.
Use a Metal Straight Edge. The Hook blade is sharp and WILL dig into wood/plastic rulers.
When Scoring 1/8" Acrylic boards, this tool only needs 4 Strikes and the board can be split.
For 1/4" boards, requires at minimum 8 strokes to cut before it can be split.
-I Highly recommend this tool. So worth the $10 because of replaceable blades, the tool will never go bad.
It worked well on both 1/4 inch acrylic and 1/8 inch. Make sure you have a sturdy straight edge (clamped on is best) and go for at least 10 etches.
There was a slight lip on the snapped pieces but they still bonded with Weldon 4
