Because this light is so tiny, it can get hot. When you use the highest power setting, you definitely have to hold on to it, so that you will know when the light is getting hot. You must then reduce power. If you leave the light sitting on a shelf, then you won't know when it is heating up. Also, your hand provides some cooling to the light, because of your circulating bloodstream.
I don't consider this to be a defect. If you want a small light, you get heat build-up. This light is SMALL. I find that the medium power setting of this light is bright enough to be very useful, and there is not a heat problem. The highest power setting is just a bonus, as far as I'm concerned.
The aluminum body of the flashlight is thin. It is strong enough, but you won't get away with mistreating this flashlight. It will probably survive a drop to the floor, but don't let if fall off a cliff.
My biggest complaint about this light is that the light coming out of it has a greenish tint. The amount of green you get depends on your luck. Olight is (in)famous for this issue. FYI, green light makes faces (among other objects) look ugly.
One of the people i was on a hike with had a Coleman 2XAA extreme hunter light with him and we were standing on a bridge in the woods looking down into a river looking for fish. He was shining his light down in the river and couldn't see much, so i turned high mode on in this light and it blew his flashlight away even though it was 1/3 the size!
Really, just a great flashlight! The only possible complaint is that the batteries are expensive... That's true if you buy them at a box store, you'll pay $4.50+ per battery, but if you order them online, you can get them as cheap as $1.00/battery i bought a 12 pack of good cr123a's on amazon for around 12.95 shipped. With the battery life on this, i really doubt you'll feel the bite in your wallet to keep this light fed.
Twisting the head gently until it stops turns the light on to the low setting. The low light setting is dim enough to not ruin night vision, yet bright enough to be useful for walking through a dark room and not tripping over kid toys. To get the brighter setting, you twist the head back to off and then quickly back to on again. You can repeat this again for the blazing death ray setting. At the full 180 lumens of brightness, the light is painful to look into even with tightly closed eyes, but this is very useful for looking across a darkened yard. This thumb light puts out more light than my old, 4D Cell Mag light from the 1990's.
The battery is rather expensive and so it is great that the light comes with one. For my purposes, the battery should last a very long time because I use this only intermittently. When in my pocket, the head on the flashlight is turned far enough into the off position that it won't turn on accidentally. This is a big improvement over my push-button keychain light that spent most of its on-time in my pocket wasting batteries. The twist-on switch which requires two hands is not as convenient as a push-button switch, but I have gotten used to it.
Knowing how to turn it on and off is covered well in these reviews. It is not covered well in the instructions.Read more ›

Great light. Incredibly bright and very compact. Carry it on my key chain all the time. Battery seems to last forever. Can't recommend this highly enough.Published 15 months ago by DaveG
I love them, purchasing 3 so far. They are a bit pricey, but well sealed, bright and came with spare o-rings (so figure out where to store these things). Batteries last a while. Read morePublished 17 months ago by User172
Very bright, and I like that it uses a long life lithium battery which is not affected by hot or cold so I keep this in my car.Published 20 months ago by Tn John
I like the like, but have become a fan of Fenix from an ergonomic and price performance perspective. While this appears to be a good light, I prefer the Fenix E15.Published 20 months ago by AnalogMan
My first review wasn't good and that was because I didn't understand how to operate the light, now I do understand and that little light has great power to spare and then some. Read morePublished 21 months ago by Mennis
This is my second Olight to replace a lost Olight I3S, which is another great compact light and truly keyring size. But this is still pretty small and very bright for it's size. Read morePublished 24 months ago by Michael Jaynes
