If I had a criticism of the story as a whole, it would be this: Knog seems to be too perfect a hero. He always has the right answers, always has the right skills, and always does the right thing at exactly the right time. He is just a little too "right". That being said, Knog and his unyielding principals are what really draw me to the story. In a culture filled with "heros" who are constantly falling flat on their faces, I appreciate a literary hero set forth as an example of virtue.
As I stated in my review of the Omega Guardian, I appreciate that Arsenault has chosen to keep his writing wholesome enough that I can read his books with my ten year old daughter. Several nights a week, we look forward to delving into the next dilemma that Knog and company are going to face. This is a very entertaining series for any sci-fi loving individual or family. This episode falls in line with what you have come to expect from the series.
As with most sifi books the science is sometimes stretched a bit beyond reality. I have to say this author has done his best to follow normal science when ever he can. Who knows maybe one day we will be able to slingshot around a moon to achieve light speed.
Story pacing could use some work. It seemed like when a certain page count was reached, the author would in a few pages just end the story.
All in all, I enjoyed. I did eventually buy and read. all of Omega.
Stephen’s style is very comfortable, he writes about the details concerning the technology and story lines he decides to look into and in passes over others to keep the story moving. Understood, but sometimes I do wish for additional details. The way he gives more details is by having additional books that dive into more of the stuff you might be curious about.
Thanks Stephen for your writing and the nice books as I’ve enjoyed them.
5 stars, good characters, nice story, engaging but in some area a bit less depth to some interesting characters where I would enjoy more details.
