Steer clear of this hub

Original review revised on 9/22/16. My first hub worked fine. Then some of the ports would connect only some of the time and then later would not connect at all. Orico was very cooperative and sent out a new hub. This new hub worked great but now it's acting up in the same way--not wanting to connect. Like before the problem seems to be faulty circuits in the on/off buttons. I would steer clear of this particular Orico hub.

First review. This hub works fine. Made of aluminum and black matte in finish it appears and feels more substantial than most hubs. Have not tried the charging port yet. The ten ports are being used for reading and writing to flash drives. You can copy and paste one file from one drive into another on the hub; no need to go to your computer's hard drive first. Unlike some hubs the ports are adequately spaced such that adjacent drives will not interfere with each other. I replaced a four hub Sabent hub for this one because the Sabent hub would not accommodate adjacent drives. Additionally, I opted for a hub that would allow charging should I need that option in the future. Of course, this requires an additional piece of hardware--the AC transformer and a source of AC power. The transformer is about 5 x 1 inch in length and width and has a bright green LED on the top. I place it under the desk. Not a big deal. The ability to turn banks of three drives on and off via three toggle switchs is neat and allows one to disconnect/re-connect an active flash drive. The only downside are the three blue lights indicating the on/off position of a bank. They are too small and hard to see. But not a big deal. Having ten drives ready and waiting in a compact hub is great. I do not have any connected Bluetooth devices at this time so I can't comment on possible interference between the hub and Bluetooth devices. But it is mentioned in the manual (which is poorly written). And you can copy a file from one drive and place it in another drive on the hub. I would recommend this product.

Know what your getting. This is purely a 3.0 USB Hub not a powered USB 3.0 HUB. Most of my devices such as my external HDD with power of their own works fine and great however, if your expecting to charge your cellphones or mobile device and sync them at the same time well your in for another story. It just doesn't provide enough power to charge cellphones or mobile devices syncing the device work great. The charging port is fine and all but I wish they just didn't include it as it seem to not charge my iphone as quick as if I were to just use a 3.0 usb slot from my pc and maybe instead worked a way to getting this USB hub to be a powered hub instead. However, its nice and doesn't need a lot of space so you can hide it out of view and keep your external devices away. I like the option where you can turn off hubs but for the most part I'm using all the usb slots.

Good USB Hub

Purchased this hub to get away from using built in USB Hubs on a dual monitor system and to have several easily accessible high speed USB ports.
The built in USB hub on each monitor switched off when a monitor entered the power save mode which was inconvenient when USB devices are in use. Also the USB connectors built into each monitor are difficult to access with two ports located on the bottom edge and two ports located on the left side especially on a two monitor arrangement that joins 2 monitors together and blocks access to the USB ports on the left side of the monitor on the right.
The high current charging port on the hub is only useful to charge devices and does not provide USB connectivity to devices plugged into it.
The power switches are convenient to be able to leave USB devices plugged in instead of having to unplug them to lose USB connectivity with them.
The status LED indicator for each USB port on the hub is convenient to quickly show how many USB devices are in use.

Works perfectly except: expect your wireless mouse to stutter if it's plugged in with 9 other items (although I use a usb keyboard through this port with no problems), and the USB plug on the side is connected to the "on/off" switch for the nearest cluster of 3 ports. While the 3 switches really make this product a great option for drives and accessories that I don't use every time I want to connect to other USB ports, it would be nice if there was one USB out that was independent of the switches, or "always on". Made it a pain to realize that my phone sat there not charging. To clarify, the 3 on/off switches control 3, 3, and 4 USB ports a piece.

The manufacturer of this product reached out to me and, after some attempted troubleshooting, they have sent me a new one. I have just received it today and, so far, it is working. If this one lasts long enough, I will revise this to a 4 star as, when functional, this device serves its purpose pretty well.

Runs hot for some reason

I've only had this for about two weeks. I'll give my observations, and will update if neccessary:
This hub seems to work ok, however, I notices a couple of things:
1. On some of the ports (not all), and only some of the time, even though the blue markings indicate that these are USB 3.0 ports, when I plug in a USB 3.0 device, my computer pops up the message "It's better to plug this device into a USB 3.0 port". I'm not sure if this is Windows' or the hub's fault. Minor issue in my opinion because it works most of the time
2. The more worrying observation for me is that the device runs hot, and if I have a USB reader plugged in, the USB read gets really hot, even without reading/writing to the SD card. Even with nothing plugged in, the unit runs a little warm. Not sure if I get a defective unit or not.The fact that it runs warm tells me it consume power, even when nothing is plugged in.

I do like the ON/OFF buttons that you can use to turn groups of 3 ports to enable/disable them. I'm going to hang on to this for a little longer to see how it holds up over time.

Appears to be a great product and the "on/off" switches are a huge plus especially from an environmental perspective. My only slight criticism of the design specification is that ten ports seems to be a bit over the top. I would rather have a product which used less energy and had fewer ports as this one uses up to 48 W which is the same as the laptop!
