In fact, I had one of the Energizer Brand LED lights already and bought these to supplement my lighting needs, and they aren't the same.
They're close in design and function, but these light really do stay on anytime they are indoors.
See the picture, the Energizer is on the right, this brand is on the left.
I would give it a 3 or 4 out of 5 if it was not for the fact that the light sensor on the top does not seem to function unless you have a bright light pointing directly at it. In my basement these lights stay on all the time. It is not a huge deal but the product does not function as intended.
The fit and finish are pretty cheap, and few of them stay on all the time even when light is directly shining down on the sensor. LED's don't use very much energy or I'd send them back.
+ Directional and strong enough for intended use.
+ Calm white/cool light
+ Relatively cheap
++ Would buy again
~ They're just bright enough to give an ambient glow in a room if directed properly or against a white/reflective surface
~ To be useful in some cases the light has to be pointed where your eyes can catch it. Thinking of a little DIY to fix glare.
- Light sensor is not that sensitive/they don't turn off unless direct light is on the sensor. (never around outlets)
- Fixture blocks ground of above plug if placed below.
The big question: does the Dusk-to-Dawn Precision Sensor work? Yes and no. In direct light, either sunlight or a lamp, yes. If they receive only indirect light, which is all too likely with many rooms and outlets, no. The sensor just isn't sensitive enough and the sensitivity isn't adjustable as it is on some pricey alternatives. My bathroom, for example, has a single north-facing frosted window under an overhang. No direct light ever reaches the night light from the window and the night light remains on until I turn on the bathroom light, at which point the sensor shuts off the night light. The night light in the living room is near a western-facing window. During much of the day, the night light remains on. When the sun is lower and the window is receiving full-on direct sunlight, the night light turns off. Still, given a choice between having them on when they shouldn't be vs. having them off when they should be, I'd pick the former.
The lights are bright enough for exactly what I'm using them for: something to light the way when I'm stumbling around the house at night. I keep one in the bathroom, one in the living room, and one in the kitchen.Read more ›
These also have polarity, which may be a problem if your outlets are upside down (ground on the top). If your outlets are upside down the light sensor will be on the bottom. The Maxxima MLN-10 LED Night Light with Sensor (Pack of 4) does not have polarized plugs so can be oriented either way.
UPDATE August 16, 2016: I purchased these night lights back in June of 2015 (1X 8 pack and also 1X 4 pack). Since then, I have had them plugged into various outlets throughout our home for everyday/night use. So far, all of them are still functioning the same way they did when I received them and I have never been able to notice an increase in my electricity bill for a single month since I purchased them. As of this update, I'm raising my review from 4 stars to 5.
