Has an enclosure that you can use your old HDD disk in, comes with a 15 gb usb that you can use to back up your saved games and the update files with room to spare and it even has the screw driver you need, with good instructions to follow( PS website has good instructions too).
It really demystified the difficulty of doing this and it is very easy to do, instructions are clear.
When following the directions for the update file on the USB, the latest file is 932 MB for a clean install. Save folders in capital PS4>UPDATE> file should be named PS4UPDATE
( do not add the .pup as you may be tempted to , that is the extension of the file, leave it as it is and it will work) instructions on PS website are misleading and some people on a forum state you need to change the name like that but that is not true. This caused me to lose 1.5 hrs of my life.
I do not miss deleting games as I used to to be able to play one of the PSN free games, space for days!!
1. If you haven’t done so, make sure your other created accounts are backed-up. Since I am the only user, this step does not apply to me.
2. Make sure that your Trophies are synched to your PSN account. On each games, Click your PS4 controller option button>Sync with PlayStation Network. To which you will not lose any of your achieved trophies.
3. You will receive all of the required items for this upgrade. But, make sure that your 2 TB hard drive is formatted to ExFat, not NTFS, due to reason that PS4 only supports ExFat and FAT32. On a Forum, NTFS will cause problems on the long run. I prefer to use my computer for formatting drives.
4. If not formatted, complete assembling your 2TB drive with the OWC Express case. Then, plug the assembled drive to your computer, (Note, I am running Windows 10 on my computer). With Cortana, Search for Disk Management on your computer to which “Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions” should display a window. The pop-up will ask you that your drive has not been partitioned (Note: Choose GPT if the drive is over 2TB)>Hit ok. Make sure that you are choosing the right drive with the right storage size and should indicate it is unallocated.
5. The drive will display either online or offline. If it is offline, right click your unallocated drive>Initialize the drive.
6. Once Online, Right-Click>New Simple Volume and will open a wizard to which you follow through until you hit Format Partition step. Change the File Format to ExFat (Note: Default setting is always NTFS).
7. Finish the steps for the wizard. Continue the rest of the steps of upgrading your PS4 hard drive.
Summary:
I think it is worth the purchase that I have extra storage to keep all of my games and not constantly deleting games to make room. Especially, downloading digital games and updates can take a long time. It would have been nice if there are pictures on the steps. I recommend using YouTube videos along with upgrading your PS4 to eliminate any possible issues. There is a way for better data transfer, but I don’t mind re-downloading because I have only kept 5 games at that time. I have to make sure to conduct backup of my drive in case the disk crash and hoping it will not. Overall, I am satisfied with the product. 5 stars but the manual needed to be improved along with my missing steps.
Anyway I order this kit, and not too long after I received it I had my PS4 upgraded and working, barring some headaches getting it connected to the net but that's unrelated to the hard drive.
Installation was smooth and I have yet to run out of space, plus I can probably find other uses for the USB stick that was included, and the included external hard drive enclosure is a fantastic way to re-purpose the old drive.
Over all if someone needs to upgrade for more space I'd recommend this kit to anyone.
