For the first time since I left home, I actually purchased tongs as I've always seen how my mom usse them all the time to move "stuff" around with much ease. So I got the babies and they are awesome. No more trying to turn over food in the oven and fearing first degree burns if you don't happen to grab the food well.
The tongs are really sturdy, lock easily to take less space, and the nylon heads don't destroy your teflon as metal ones tend to. They also stand up to a lot of heat so they don't melt.
These won't change your life but if you need tongs these are awesome. Now if OXO could make something to make me a cook.
One of the best "surprise" features it has is the lock. It keeps its lock - even in the dishwasher. It is, as the same time, smooth and adjustable enough for me to unlock them with one hand if needed (and at the grill, this comes in QUITE handy!).
COMPLETELY dishwasher safe.
They are indespensible to me, and I am going to invest in a few more to have around the house. What more could you ask for?
big mistake !!! maybe in 2004 oxo was using better plastic, but in 2009 the plastic they use is simply awful: the tips melted the moment they touched an iron pan on low-to-medium heat.
we have old plastic utensils from a dollar store and they perform much better; at the very least they do not melt as quickly as this brand new oxo product.
we bought these in a set with two turners and those were not great either. back to the store the set goes. wish someone warned us about melting plastic - having bits and pieces of black plastic in your dish is not a good thing.
will try tongs with silicone tips next.
If you are learning to cook stir frys and such, use this instead of the heat resistant spatualas. I've had them melt even though they've said they won't.
pic #1, the left one is from amazon, the right one I bought years ago in a shop, like 12$.
pic #2, the left one is so thin and cheap metal, without even an OXO logo anywhere. You could see the big difference in weight in pic #3.
pic #4, the nylon piece is long and thin without a metal structure, so when you press, it deforms like pic #5
Did I receive a fake one? I'm definitely sending it back!

We use tongs quite a bit for cooking and serving. I wanted to add a pair with Nylon tips and looked at several. There are tons of choices that look similar, but aren't. Read morePublished 8 days ago by Curmudgeonista
These tongs are perfect for nonstick pans - just the right amount of grip plus they stay closed, unlike cheap metal tongs where the closing mechanism always seems to break.Published 22 days ago by JHMV
Bought these a few years ago. I use at least once a weeks. They have held up well. OXO makes good, reliable kitchen equipment. I'll stock my whole kitchen with OXO if I could. Read morePublished 28 days ago by Patricia
