This is another well made product from OXO. It is a must have for slicing cucumbers thinly. If you haven't used a mandoline previously be very careful. The blade is razor sharp and can do serious injury to a finger. However, it does what it's supposed to do and cleans easily under the sink. Nothing to take apart except to remove the finger guard. I highly recommend this product.

I ordered this wanting a simple tool for slicing vegetables--potatoes, squash, onions for cooking, but also for making my own chips and snacks. I wanted something that stores easily and doesn't take up space. The first time I was using it, slicing a sweet potato, I thought it wasn't working because it took so little effort. I saw in another review to be sure and use the guard, but I got a bit of a cut because it cut down so quickly, I hadn't put the guard on yet. So, use it with the guard as should be done, and enjoy this simple, economical, well-made product. I love it and use it almost every day now. (but always use the guard, that is well designed.)

Original review: This item is great for slicing veggies thin enough for sandwiches. It has different settings for different thicknesses: The thinnest cut setting (1) is for hard veggies such as radishes. Then next setting (2) is best for most veggies (onion, bell pepper, cucumber, etc.), while the thickest cut setting (3) is best for tomatoes. Easy-to-use and easy-to-clean.

9/28/23 update: I lowered my rating from five stars to four stars because, after 3 1/2 month of light daily usage, the slicer blade has become much less sharp. I'm now having trouble cutting softer vegetables (especially tomatoes) because they tend to deform when they hit the blade instead of slicing! Also, I have to use more force to push harder veggies (onion, bell pepper, radishes, etc.) through the blade.

The blade is not removable or replaceable. So, today I set the thickness adjustment to "3" (to maximize the distance between blade and plastic tray), and tried to sharpen the blade as best I could using a metal file. I'll see if the slicer works any better tomorrow. If so, I may have found a solution. I'll update soon.

I scrapped a mandoline I had for years since it almost always drew blood. This one doesn't have deifferent plates or blades, it adjusts by sliding an adjustment button . It works nicely and its easy to keep your fingers off the blade. Easy to clean and takes minimal space.
