Top Customer Reviews
The spoon has a very good angle which makes it easier to feed. I also purchased plastic munchkins spoons for much cheaper (just so I can compare) that I don't really use since I bought the OXO spoons. The silicone tip is also great because while introducing solids to a 6 month old, she tends to bite the spoon (accidentally) and it doesn't hurt her gums. I really love this spoon and I don't think I will need any other kind! Highly recommended!!!
UPDATE: I bought these spoons in Green, Blue and Orange. The BLUE spoons have started changing colors a bit and it happened to my friend's as well. It's starting to turn a little green? Is this safe? I wonder if they'd let me return the blue ones even though they are used...I've used it less than 10 times before it changing colors.
-my hand doesn't cramp,
-silicone coat is save for baby's mouth, softer than plastic (my son can safely play with it),
-dishwasher safe; no sings of wear at all after 5 months of everyday use so far,
-deep enough to scoop food and liquid, but not that deep to leave some food after every bite (like Munchkin colorful 6 pack).
It is very unfortunate that these spoons cannot withstand little teeth and I had to throw them away. I would recommend reading reviews of other spoons as I am doing now to try to find a soft spoon that will not break and tear so easily. I am very disappointed in OXO Tot and the quality of this spoon, particularly since I was willing to pay more for the two pack of spoons in order to get a superior quality - which is not the case.
I've been using these spoons exclusively for about 5 or 6 months now and they are great! The soft silicone helps keeps my son's little baby teeth protected as he bites down on the spoon and learns how to eat. While I can't attribute his healthy appetite to these spoons, I think they definitely help the overall process of feeding him. About a month ago, we lost one of the spoons while on vacation and my husband ended up ordering more of these OXO spoons online. He ordered the blue ones again and what we received were a much lighter shade of blue than the ugly one we received months ago in the photo shown from my original post/review! I'm not sure if OXO changed the color or if they have a lack of consistency in their manufacturing. However, the blue, while not as light as what is shown in the main product photo, definitely has a resemblance to the color that they are advertising. It was not a disgusting shade of blue that we had previously received. Based on the functionality of the spoon and the color of the new spoons we purchased, I'm changing my rating to 3-stars from 1-star previously.
Original review, 1 star:
I feel compelled to write my first Amazon review bc I was so disappointed when I received these spoons! Not for the functionality, but for the color! It looks like a vibrant aqua color in the photo, but when I received it, it was a dark ugly blue-green. It was definitely not as advertised! I'm returning these ASAP and trying the green instead.
The standard expectations of a baby spoon are met:
+ Comfortable for baby (soft silicon) and feeder (nicely weighted and shaped handle).
+ Non-toxic materials (BPA/phthalate/PVC-free).
+ Easy to clean (easy to handwash and dishwasher-safe).
Some Oxo spoon characteristics realized after also using Munchkin's:
+ Its curvature enables entire scoop to be fed, while Munchkin's leaves some in the spoon.
+ Its silicon spoon is soft on the lips, while Munchkin's is rigid (not rough, but just not as pleasant).
+ It lays stable on bowl rims, inside bowl, on its neck (e.g., resting on upside-down jar lid), etc. Munchkin's spoon, on the other hand, is balanced so poorly that it flings food as if an invisible, evil Munchkin is trying to foodfight with you.
After a few tries, I haven't touched the Munchkin spoons since, and instead purchased another set of Oxo spoons.
Note that the aqua color Oxo spoon is actually more of a putrid dark blue that looks like "used" toilet bowl cleaner fluid; the color is not anything like other Oxo products' aqua. I promptly returned it and got another set in green, which nicely matches the OXO Tot Baby Blocks Freezer Storage Containers 2-Ounce, Set 6, Clear.
Btw, I use and love the Munchkin Feeding Set, 15 Pack, so it's just their spoon I don't like, not the Munchkin brand.
