A new spin on our classic design Before the introduction of the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner in 1998, crank or pull-tab salad spinners were considered high-end products. Some people even used the spin cycle of their washing machine to dry lettuce. Our easy-to-use Spinner transformed the tool into an everyday kitchen essential. Nearly 20 years later, we revisited the Spinner to make some updates while keeping the top features and original inspiration: a children’s top. With a modern design that complements contemporary kitchens and an improved brake that stops on a dime every time, we think you’ll love our new spin on the classic design. Dry salad greens with a simple press of the soft, non-slip knob. The non-slip base keeps the bowl steady on the countertop, and the updated built-in brake button stops the Salad Spinner for unloading. The basket doubles as a colander, and the lid comes apart for easy cleaning.

This salad spinner is worth the price, hands down.
The outer bowl is a very thick plastic. I wash the lettuce in the green container, place it in the outer plastic bowl, place the top on and push down the top and it starts to spin very, very easily. Anyone with any type of hand or wrist issues could easily use this salad spinner. In fact, the pushing engages the patent pump system. It's so much fun to push down the pump that kids will beg to do it. You'll have to hide your salad spinner because they will look for any reason to push down the pump at the top. There is a little green button on top you can press down to slow down and stop the spin process.
The salad spinner pulls a LOT of water off my greens. It all stays in the bottom of the plastic bowl. Capacity is 4.49 quarts. It holds a lot of lettuce and they recommend storing the cut and washed lettuce in the salad spinner to keep it fresh longer. The top disassembles for easy cleaning and is top rack, dishwasher safe, but I usually hand wash mine. This salad spinner is BPA free.
We bought this for our summer cottage and I am driving it back to our house because it's such a nice salad spinner that I'm not leaving it back at the cottage. I'm also planning to buy it for people as gifts as it is very nice, high quality. I can see myself eating salad a lot more often just because of the ease and fun of using this salad spinner.
I had the previous version for more years than I can remember--the darned thing was bulletproof. And I'd still be using it now if a clueless house guest hadn't stuck its spinner top cover in the bottom rack of my dishwasher with the wash cycle set for extra hot water. As you might expect, the plastic warped and that was that.
I was concerned that the new model couldn't measure up to the old one, but to my pleasant surprise it was improved in every way. The plastics throughout look and feel to be of higher quality, the appearance is far more attractive, the new compact design takes up less space in my cabinet and the spinner mechanism works as well as ever. What's not to love?! So bravo, Oxo, for once again being the company for which great isn't good enough.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision!
Prior to the breaking of the mechanism, I thought it was a good spinner. Base is solid and stable. Basket is also solid and spins well inside the base. Lid piece fit well and real easy to use. Lettuce is sufficiently dry if you spin it well. We were quite happy with the product until the mechanism broke.
If the manufacturer reads this review, it seems like a simple fix: The center metal screw presses down into a plastic nut that spins the inner lid/basket. If this center plastic nut was made of metal instead of plastic, it would not deform. It was only a minor deformity but causes the other pieces to fall off.
Maybe, we pushed it down too hard but that's the only way to spin the basket fast enough to get the lettuce sufficiently dry.
