A new spin on our classic design Before the introduction of the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner in 1998, crank or pull-tab salad spinners were considered high-end products. Some people even used the spin cycle of their washing machine to dry lettuce. Our easy-to-use Spinner transformed the tool into an everyday kitchen essential. Nearly 20 years later, we revisited the Spinner to make some updates while keeping the top features and original inspiration: a children’s top. With a modern design that complements contemporary kitchens and an improved brake that stops on a dime every time, we think you’ll love our new spin on the classic design. Dry salad greens with a simple press of the soft, non-slip knob. The non-slip base keeps the bowl steady on the countertop, and the updated built-in brake button stops the Salad Spinner for unloading. The basket doubles as a colander, and the lid comes apart for easy cleaning.

I had the previous version for more years than I can remember--the darned thing was bulletproof. And I'd still be using it now if a clueless house guest hadn't stuck its spinner top cover in the bottom rack of my dishwasher with the wash cycle set for extra hot water. As you might expect, the plastic warped and that was that.
I was concerned that the new model couldn't measure up to the old one, but to my pleasant surprise it was improved in every way. The plastics throughout look and feel to be of higher quality, the appearance is far more attractive, the new compact design takes up less space in my cabinet and the spinner mechanism works as well as ever. What's not to love?! So bravo, Oxo, for once again being the company for which great isn't good enough.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision!
But after getting the new one and washing it for its first use it just does not perform as well as the old 11 year old one we had. The inner salad bowl has a rather large clearance from the basket to the bowl and it spins but wobbles excessively. When you press on the plunger it sometimes makes a grinding sound and limits the spinning motion. Also, the brake ring on the plunger top keeps constantly popping off and you have to replace it often. The 11 year old one never had any issues like this. It seems like the quality has gone downhill in rocket skates.
In conclusion we hate to say this but we would not recommend this one. Maybe we received a defective one? I don't know. but as is it just does not perform as well as the version we bought from Target back in 2007.
A clever feature is the friction break button, which allows you to grind the spinning basket to a halt thereby shaking off even more water. The next best feature that I haven't seen on other spinners is the locking mechanism, a sliding plastic piece that secure the plunger into the downward position for better storage.
My only reservation about this salad spinner is it requires a great dealing of cleaning just to wash greens for your salad. The basket can grab onto small leaves, and the two-piece lid had a lot of surface area that is necessary to clean most times I use this.
