Product Description

Classic OXO Good Grips Brushed Stainless Steel Utensils are useful for common cooking tasks like sauteing, stirring, serving and more. One sleek piece of brushed stainless steel forms this 13-1/4-inch spoon from OXO Good Grips. The edges of the handle wrap under slightly and cradle a soft, non-slip grip in the lower five inches. A hole is provided for hanging. Sturdy construction and a long handle make this dishwasher-safe spoon perfect for stirring large vats of soup. The spoon’s deep bowl allows it to serve soup, stew, or good-sized dollops of macaroni and cheese. Plus, because it’s steel, the spoon can rest safely on hot cookware.

OXO believes in designing products that are easy to use for the widest range of users. A fairly substantial heft means the spoon will best suit medium-to-large hands. Stored in a crock, the spoon forms a handsome bouquet with OXO’s other stainless-steel utensils, such as a slotted spoon, turner, and spaghetti server. OXO backs all its products with a satisfaction warranty, and will replace or refund any returned item. --Ann Bieri

I've owned it for two years now (Jan-07 to Jan-09). It's still intact, no chips bends or breaks. Great investment.

*original review*
It's sturdy, well built and does the job. Slightly heavy, which is the thing I love about it

OXO's line of brushed stainless steel kitchen utensils are nicely balanced and feel great using them. My only complaint is that after putting them through the dishwasher, they have developed some surface rust spots. They scrub off, but I hate to have to worry about the rust each time. Must be cheap stainless steel composition.

This is a large turner. Ideal for use on 9.5" or larger skillet. For those who are concerned about bacteria growing in between the rubber grip and stainless steel handle may not wish to purchase this turner. It does have a tiny gap between rubber and stainless steel. The handle and grip is comfortable for handling.

Ideal turner will be a one piece molded stainless steel with no weld and gap for ease of cleaning.

I was tired of nylon and other plastic spatulas and turners. Most of them have a thick edge and are not sufficiently stiff to really scrape something out of a pan. Using a cheap plastic turner to flip hash brown potatoes in my cast iron pan resulted in a melted edge on the turner and bits of potato still stuck to the pan.

This stainless steel turner is the answer to that problem. It is stiff and heavy duty enough to handle pretty much any turning duty in my kitchen. If you need a flexible turner, this is not it. It has a non-slip material inserted at the holding end of the handle that makes it comfortable to hold. However, if you need to "choke up" on the grip and hold it closer to the turner you will be holding the edges of the turned over steel, which is not very comfortable. Being stainless steel, I don't have to worry about leaving it leaning on the side of my cookware and having it melt. The handle is a good length - long enough to keep your hand away from the cooking surface but no so long as to make using it awkward. I used it to get the cookies off my cookie sheets and it worked okay for that, even if the edge could be just a little bit thinner to get under the cookies.

If you are looking for a stainless steel turner, this is a good one.

Purchased these for use on cast iron and hard anodized aluminum cookware. It was actually looking for more Calphalon brand SS utensils, as I have two that I have been very pleased with, but it seems that the line I wanted had been discontinued. In comparison, these are not as sleek and polished, or as well crafted. However, they are half the price or less, and work well enough. Good weight and balance, good grip surfaces. For what they are, I'm well pleased and would purchase them again.

These OXO stainless tools are the best. Solid, well build, includes a hole to hang them. Unlike the Kitchen Aid which tip out of the pan due to their imbalanced weight characteristics, the OXOs are well balanced. It's slightly heavy which I like. Doesn't scratch very easily and washes nicely. This is my line of choice.

I bought this spoon to replace a 40 year old stainless steel cooking spoon whose sharp handle edges dig into my palm when I use it. Naturally, I thought a Good Grips handle would be more comfortable. It is, but the spoon handle's poor design makes it impossible to clean, thus, I never use it. Where the soft grip part of the handle meets the main body of the spoon there is a large gap. I didn't notice it till the first time I used the spoon after washing it. I went to stir a pot of chili and as I dipped the spoon into the pot, a large amount of dirty, soapy dishwater from the day before spilled out of the gap between the handle parts, right into my chili. Disgusting. I can't pry the soft grip handle off to permit air to circulate in the gap in order to dry it properly, rendering it the perfect place to harbor bacteria. Had I not thrown away the tags, I would return it. In short, great spoon with a nice heft in the hand, but a terrible handle design that renders it worthless in the kitchen. Moving it to my garden tools.

And that flaw would be that the handle ENDS too soon, it is NOT a semi-tubular shape as the photo makes you think, but the neck of the handle is curved metal, meaning that the two edges will be cutting into your hand if you choke up on the tool, as I often do to wrest something out of a hot pan. BIG disappointment, because otherwise it's typically perfect Oxo industrial design. Why cheap out there? It reminds me of a 1980 Ford my father once drove, they really cheaped out and where your fingers would rest as you held the steering wheel was a RAGGED SEAM! Talk about dumb. Who approves decisions like these? This could have been a PERFECT tool. Why would you think people would be happy with a truncated handle? I mean, all they had to do was continue the shape of the existing handle. It looks and feels unfinished. So, buyer beware.
