Classic OXO Good Grips Brushed Stainless Steel Utensils are useful for common cooking tasks like sauteing, stirring, serving and more. The sturdy brushed stainless steel construction is enhanced by soft handles that cushion and provide a non-slip grip. The stainless steel surface on the bottom of the handle lets you safely lean the utensils on hot cookware. Turner/Spatula
One sleek piece of brushed stainless steel forms this 13-1/2-inch turner, from its 3-1/4-inch-wide slotted head to the curved end with hanging hole. The handle edges curve under slightly and cradle a soft, non-slip grip in the lower five inches. Sturdy construction makes this dishwasher-safe turner a pro for flipping burgers on the grill or pancakes in a cast-iron skillet. Plus, because its steel, the turner can rest safely on the rim of a hot pan.
OXO believes in designing products that are easy to use for the widest range of users. A fairly substantial heft means the turner will best suit medium-to-large hands. Stored in a crock, the turner forms a handsome bouquet with OXOs other stainless-steel utensils, such as a slotted spoon, ladle, and spaghetti server. OXO backs all its products with a satisfaction warranty, and will replace or refund any returned item. --Ann Bieri

Every time I'm unsatisfied with a kitchen utensil, I end up replacing it with the OXO version, and loving the results... can opener, garlic press, you name it.
Unlike many spatulas with a curved edge, this turner has a relatively straight front edge. If you're not using a nonstick pan (stainless steel, cast-iron), sometimes you just need to do a little scraping without scratching the pan. It's amazing how hard it was to find a spatula that didn't have a curved edge, making them useless for this task. This turner is durable and comfortable.
Had I looked more carefully at the photograph--and it's true that this site is notorious for posting photos of something other than the product being sold, but in this case it's exactly correct, as of this review date--I would have seen the black material beneath, just on the handle. It does provide for a pleasanter heft, easier on the hand than if it was all steel, and it will probably suit your needs just fine. But I myself would have been even happier if it had just been one block of stainless steel and nothing else.
All told, this is a great tool for a person that cooks often using cookware that doesn't have a nonstick interior, and that doesn't have a utensil-stealing pup in the house. I have other turners that I use for my nonstick pans, but this one is good for my Calphalon and Revere Ware skillets and saute pans. I would buy this turner again if it came down to it...and with Ox in the house, it may.
I have no idea how OXO can sell this ladle at this price and make money on it, but more power to them. I'll be looking at this brand when I replace some of our flimsy bargain-basement utensils, purchased with the best intentions by my penny-pinching significant other.
