This zester currently holds #1 position as the best zester I have tried to date!
(Update: the Victorinox zester with the polypropylene handle now ties for first place with this Oxo zester - to compare the two please check out my other reviews or search for the item on Amazon and look for my review on the product page)
This Oxo zester zests easily without much pressure and zest is perfect unlike some of the other zesters I have tried that produce shredded strips with torn edges.
I don’t mind the wide thick handle myself, but I have long fingers for a woman. I’m 5’ 11” so I find that this zester fits comfortably in my hand and I like the tapered shape of it. If you are far more diminutive than me then you might want to check out my review for the Victorinox zester/s (Wood or the polypropylene handle) instead.
If the chunky handle on this Oxo zester doesn’t turn you off, this zester is a great choice. It gets five stars from me.
This was the only zester I tried that the channel knife on the side of the zester worked well too. (FYI The Victorinox zester doesn’t have a channel knife)
For my other zester reviews check out my profile page. I have also put all of the zesters I have tried to date in an ideas list so you can find them easily (please note some of them got 1 star from me, so please read each of my reviews for them before you select one from my ideas list)

You have to be really careful with this. It gives you a false sense of security over the nasty sharp graters. It's really only designed for citrus, so it doesn't really help with cheese, nutmeg or ginger. But it is really challenging to hold it without slipping and scraping yourself. I think I would have been better off getting the all-purpose ones with a safety guard

I saw a citrus zester with this design in a YouTube video and was intrigued, because the normal zesters inevitably scrape me and get a lot of pith and take forever. I checked Amazon and was stoked Oxo makes one of this design, because I've rarely had an Oxo product that wasn't solidly made.
Well, I actually did cut myself on this the first time I used it, but it was my fault because I had a parrot on my shoulder making things ergonomically awkward for myself. So it IS possible to hurt yourself on it. However, it's really easy to NOT hurt yourself if you don't have a parrot on your shoulder, and every subsequent time I used it was amazing and much safer than a normal zester.
I highly recommend it, I'm very glad I got it and wish I'd always had one. Now when there's a recipe that requires zesting citrus I don't feel dread.
Oh, and because the zest comes out in long strands, it's especially easy to strain out of liquids you may steep it in. And I guess it would make it really easy to make candied citrus peel, if you're into that sort of thing.

Good little channel knife. Handle is ergonomic, and the zester is a nice bonus. Cuts a nice twist

I never had to zest anything before, but when I started cooking more often I purchased this tool. It makes cooking so much easier! It's easy to use and I haven't had any issues. The fruit needs to be firm in order to make it work best, but it will work ok on fruit that is slightly over ripe.

No joke this is the best zester I've ever seen. Not to mention I get excellent citrus spirals out of it. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

this is a very well made, sturdy Zester and channel knife. I would give this 4 1/2 stars if it was a choice. My only beef is that I wish the channel knife was a slight bit wider and deeper. I use it regularly and feel it is well worth the price

Game changer
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 29, 2020Verified Purchase
Have been getting into cocktails during lockdown, but struggled with citrus garnishes (my veg peeler wasn't up to the task, random bits of peel don't look that appealing), so bloody love the ease with which the channel knife part of this takes a long clean strip that can then be shaped into a twist.
It was a channel knife I came to Amazon looking for, so getting one with a zester was a bit of a bonus - that part is great too. Worth noting that it's small strips of zest that you'll get, not tiny flecks like you'd get with a multi-sided grater - not a flaw of the product, but worth knowing, in case it's not quite what you're looking for.

Very handy

This is a very nice, simple little tool. It doesn't look as if it should work, but it works brilliantly. It takes a few minutes to develop the knack for working it (you have to keep it almost parallel to the surface of the orange as you move around the surface). Once you figure it out, it works perfectly every time. It's easy to clean, easy to store. It's something we don't use very often, but when we do, there are always smiles at how well it works.

Great little tool
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 23, 2020Verified Purchase
Great tool. Sharp channel knife cuts perfectly and produces nice strips of peel. The zester also cuts nice bits of zest although not as fine as a Microplane style zester/grater. The rubbery texture of the handle allows for a good grip although it can pick up lint from a tea towel when drying.

Brilliant for zest and garnishes

Produces very nice clean zest, without any pith. Easy to hold, use and clean. The added bonus is the wedge shaped blade for producing garnishes for drinks etc.

Can't make it work

Definitely not the cocktail queen with this, just can't get it to work right, make a total mess and end up with bits of shavings that I could have done with a grater
