Not much better than the large yogurt tub I was using previously, but it looks nicer.
We try to give the worms everything possible, including every napkin or paper towel that has no cleaning products on it. (even using skoy cloths, you still seem to use some consumables). That's another reason for needing two. The worms create a lot of awesome pitch black "dirt" from our small household. And they breed like crazy, creating a mountain of worms for our chickens who provide so many eggs we have to give them away. Plus wonderful chicken poop to grow awesome vegetables. Life is good! This should be mandatory for everyone. No one would need fertilizers any more. 8-)
Our building doesn't have a compost bin, so we rely on the city's weekly curbside compost pickup. Which leads to our problems.
1. its not big enough to hold a week of our compostable waste. If you could empty more regularly, this isn't an issue.
2. when you let compost sit in this container for a week, the bottom smells awful, and that stench doesn't come out easily. A bunch of vinegar helps.
3. it doesn't hold a compostable bag easily or gracefully. You can jam a bag in there and let it drape over the sides, but then it slides down and you lose that glamorously smooth exterior. I like clean lines. Its probably because I watched too many Trading Spaces episodes (vern!). This is probably not an issue for you.
We ended up getting a larger compost bin which is bag compatible and has better airflow. We freeze bags as they fill up and put the bags in the compost on pick-up day.
I'm going with 4 stars overall b/c its hard to get the stench of rotting vegetable matter out, but otherwise its great for anyone with a compost pile in their backyard.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the lid easily removes from its hinge with one hand and without jostling the full container. I can also snap it back on with one hand! That makes it easy to take the lid off for dumping in my compost pile outdoors, without making any mess.
The size is quite unobtrusive on my countertop and the fact that it's durable plastic makes it easy to clean.
I was initially looking at metal compost containers but was dissuaded by reviews reporting rust and separation along the seams, so I went for this one. I am pleased with my choice and think that this would work well for those who compost plant matter only because there is no need for a filter.

All in all, this item is fine as a food waste caddy - it just won't last more than a few years' of everyday use and the lifetime guarantee/warranty from Oxo is meaningless.
Another surprisingly simple but appreciated element is the ease with which you can open the lid with one hand and have it stay open.
Probably wouldn’t recommend if you have inquisitive younger cats who I would imagine could easily get in, but my fella is too old for jumping up to the counter top so not an issue for me.
Inside is smooth with curved edges and lid slides off its hinges easily all making it easy to clean. I really like the fact that it's nice and compact so doesn't take up much space in my worktop but big enough to cope with a veg heavy day like if I'm cooking a Sunday roast.
The colour is great too.
I know it will still look good after a few years
It looks neat and attractive on the worktop
The lid is easy to pop up when I’m adding the odd teabag - I’m too busy to faff with awkward lids
The lid comes off easily for cleaning
It goes into the dishwasher if needed
