I added a picture of the scoops and the balls they created to the item, see the alternate pictures. The balls are made out of quite firm, straight from the refrigerator whipped white chocolate ganache. There are two scoops shown for each disher. On the left is a scoop leveled off with a knife, to the right is a slightly rounded "natural" scoop.
(from left to right, see picture) I also bought the Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop, 25MM (1.5 Teaspoon) and am keeping that, as I really wanted a very small scoop. The next smallest is also the most expensive, the smaller of the two Zeroll Universal Small EZ Disher Food/Ice Cream Scoop, Orange, followed by the Zeroll Universal Small EZ Disher Food/Ice Cream Scoop, Burgundy. They made nice scoops, but I returned the Zerolls as I found the plastic handles rather awkward to use with very stiff batter. These are followed by the Oxo Good Grips Small Cookie Scoop and the Adcraft (purchased at a local restaurant supply store), which I felt would be best for cookies or small meatballs, but if you like a larger truffle, they could be used for that too. The Oxo Good Grips Small Cookie Scoop has the most comfortable handle to use of all of them. It produced ganache balls of 14-19 grams.
The cookie scoopers are no exception. They never catch, they portion things out easily. In addition to cookies, I use them for measuring cupcake batter, meatballs, portioning ground beef for hamburgers, etc. And they handle being used by an elementary schooler for scooping ice cream. No complaints - worth the money.
Someone had asked about if it would work well to fill small muffin tins. Adding a picture to show how far it fills our tins up - it's about 60% of the way. It's the same ratio the large does for standard muffin tins.
One generous scoop is the perfect amount for a regular cupcake cup size. They *ALL* came out perfect with a beautiful "muffin top". I attempted to trust my hubby to make the cupcakes one time, but he under-filled them (he did not follow my directions about the generous scoop amount!). And bc it is built like an icecream scooper (with the inside metal pieces that helps slide off the icecream), I never have to scrape the scooper to make sure all the batter gets into the cups. And this also helped me utilize ALL the batter bc sometimes I didn't know if there was enough batter in the bowl to make another cupcake, but with the scooper, I can just scrape the sides until it if full and have another perfect cupcake to bake - nothing goes to waste. Easy to wash and has been going strong, with no issues, for many months now. I do not regret this purchase AT ALL!
She didn't use the small scoop for a couple months and the day she did, it broke too.
The metal component that is "welded" on to the gear at the bottom is what broke off on both occasions. She has had an older heavy chrome/stainless scoop she's had over 20 years, but these have not held up. We would normally give OXO a high rating, but our experience with these devices has not been good.
