From the Manufacturer
The OXO Good Grips bent icing knife features a sturdy, flexible, stainless-steel blade. The bent blade elevates your hand to ensure adequate clearance above frosted surfaces, while the soft nonslip handle rests comfortably in your hand. The icing knife is dishwasher-safe.

Oxo has such a great name, and I have many of their products, I knew I could not go wrong. It is a very comfortable knife with a nonslip handle. The bent blade is perfect for putting the frosting on and then shaping the frosting to fit the cake or cupcakes. You can angle your movement without breaking your arm, and it is so much easier to use this off set spatula.
Of course, there are other uses for this off set. You can slide the knife right under cookies to lift the cookies off without crumbles. Anything, really that you want to move from a pan to another surface. The knife/spatula is made of stainless steel and you can wash in the dishwasher, but I prefer to hand wash.
This off set spatula is one of those pieces of equipment that makes a perfect gift. Many people, like me, never think to purchase one, and then once you have it, you wonder how you did without it. A gift someone usually does not buy for themselves. Remember this, when you are thinking of stocking stuffers.

That said, I suppose it depends on the type of cake you are icing - if it's a big one, this would probably work well. Mine was a fiddly shaped child's birthday cake!
It seems to be made of decent quality materials and is sturdy. I only do cakes on special occasions, so my experience of this icing spatula is based on very amateur baking skills :)
